Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has further expanded its all-electric fleet today, as the all-new Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4Matic+ bows into our local EV market. Alongside the Mercedes-AMG EQS, these two sporty EV saloons are the first two AMG EQ models to be launched into our local market.

Starting off with the looks, the EQE 53 looks pretty much the same as its non-AMG twin, but with few signature AMG sporty touches around it. At the front, the EQE 53 sports a faux vertical grille bar design that hides beneath the massive three-pointed star emblem and a smaller AMG badge. Crowning above the front ‘grille’ is yet another Merc emblem, albeit in a much smaller size.
Flanking the faux grille are a pair of digital LED headlights that feature special AMG light projection. Elsewhere, the AMG model also rocks a special AMG front bumper, featuring gloss black front splitter with functional air intakes that help to cool down both the front motor and brakes.
The AMG model gets bigger 21-inch wheels, shodded in Michelin Pilot Sport EV sport tyres
From the side, the AMG model mirrors the standard model, with the exception of the sporty 21-inch AMG light alloy wheels it rides on, featuring multi-spoke design with two-tone finish. Hiding behind the wheels are the AMG high-performance brakes with red-hued callipers.
The differences are also subtle at the rear part of the EQE 53, as it sports the same LED taillights design with the standard model. The only ways to tell both cars apart are the presence of the AMG badging, functional rear diffuser, as well as the small ducktail spoiler that crowns above the car’s tailgate.
Additionally, this model comes standard with AMG Night Package, which bestows it with a bevy of black or black chrome finish around the car. This includes the aforementioned AMG body kit, the sporty wheels, and many more.
On board, the AMG EQE 53 is laden with AMG-specific parts and trims, aside from the standard tech amenities. Key highlights include the AMG Performance steering wheel wrapped in perforated Nappa leather, AMG sporty seats wrapped in Artico man-made leather, AMG sport pedals, AMG floor mats, as well as AMG door sill trims with illuminated AMG lettering.
As for tech amenities, the AMG EQE 53 sports the latest MBUX hyper screen layout plus a head-up display for drivers. Opting for the Premium Plus package will grant you with premium equipment like Burmester 3D surround sound system, active ambient lighting system, and many more.
This range-topping AMG EQE 53 is powered by two permanently excited synchronous motors (PSM) that deliver a total system output of 625 HP (460 kW) and 950 NM, propelling this two-tonne saloon from nought to 100 KM/H in just 3.5 seconds. Flat out, the EQE 53 can reach its electronically-governed V-max of 220 KM/H.
Opting for the AMG Dynamic Plus Package will further boost this power output to 687 HP and a whopping 1,020 NM of twist. With this setup, the AMG EQE 53’s 0-100 KM/H sprint time is further shortened to only 3.3 seconds.
Juicing up these two electric motors is a 400-volt lithium-ion battery pack that supplies 90.56-kWh of energy content. Said battery pack bestows the EQE 53 with a maximum EV range of up to 527 KM, according to WLTP standard. The model supports both AC 11 kW and DC 170 kW charging rates, with the former taking more than nine hours to charge from 10% to 80%, while the latter can achieve the same state-of-charge in only 32 minutes.
Touted as the first-ever AMG EQE model by MBM, the fully-imported (CBU) Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4Matic+ commands an asking price of RM649,888 on-the-road sans insurance or add-ons. This puts the AMG model about RM230,000 more expensive than its non-AMG twin, which was launched last year.
So folks, what are your thoughts on MBM’s first-ever AMG EQ model? Would you prefer the Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4Matic+ over other performance-oriented EV saloons like the Porsche Taycan or soon-to-be-launched Audi RS e-tron GT? As always, leave your thoughts in the comments down below…
