Mitsubishi Teases New Compact Crossover Ahead of August Debut
Mitsubishi has cooked up something behind the doors, and it will be a new compact crossover model by the three diamond marque. This new model will make its global debut in Indonesia later this year.
While the Europeans got the re-badged Renault Captur as their compact SUV model, the same can't be said about this new model, as it is developed specifically for the ASEAN market. Though Mitsubishi refused to announce the name of this new model, at least the marque has left us with some teaser images to get our imagination going.
The sharp LED headlights design of this newly-teased compact crossover model looks familiar...
Starting off with the first teaser image, this one depicts the car’s front fascia design that features segmented LED headlights. Aside from that, only the car’s front emblem and partial part of the front hood can be seen in this shadow-draped image.
Those who follow Mitsubishi closely will instantly recognize the LED headlights design, as it looks the same as we’ve seen on the Mitsubishi XFC Concept. With this concept model developed especially for the ASEAN market, perhaps this new model will be the production version of the XFC Concept.
Yamaha audio system in a car? Never heard of it...
The second and third photo, on the other hand, showcase that the new model will boast a newly-developed sound system by renowned audio brand Yamaha. Apart from the Yamaha branding, nothing much can be derived from both photos, but at least we know that this new model will rock some premium audio on board.
Mitsubishi XFC Concept - could this be the basis of this new model?
Moving back to the XFC Concept, this crossover model is said to boast a dedicated Wet driving mode, along with three other off-road modes – Normal, Gravel, and Mud. Apart from its stunning concept design, nothing much was unveiled about this concept crossover.
Mitsubishi's new model roadmap
Apart from the XFC, Mitsubishi has other concept models, including the XRT Concept, with numerous reports suggesting that this will be the base of the next-gen Triton pick-up truck. The marque is also fiddling with electrification, as we previously reported that they are planning to launch a new EV pick-up truck, said to be based on the next-gen Triton.
This new model is poised to make its global debut in August this year at the Indonesia International Auto Show, before going on sale in ASEAN regional markets. No matter how much this production model resembles the XFC Concept, we’d guarantee that it will receive rave receptions by Malaysians, but only if Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) decides to bring it to our local market.
As for now, MMM only offers two models locally, which is the Xpander MPV and the current-gen Triton pick-up truck. While the Outlander stands as the last crossover/SUV model sold by the firm, but MMM is no stranger to compact crossovers before, as the firm used to sell the long-demised ASX crossover some time before.
So folks, what are your thoughts on this new compact crossover by Mitsubishi? Should it resemble the XFC Concept, would you be keen to take it over other segment rivals? Could this be the long-awaited ASX successor? As always, leave your thoughts in the comments below…
