Porsche Malaysia (SDAP) celebrates the 1,000th Cayenne CKD to roll off the line at Inokom's plant in Kulim, Kedah.

Porsche Malaysia (Sime Darby Auto Performance) marked a major milestone this week after announcing that the 1,000th unit of its locally assembled (CKD) Porsche Cayenne model has rolled off the line.

At launch, the Porsche Cayenne CKD commanded a base price of just RM550,000 sans options and insurance.

Latest milestone of 1,000 units signifies continued popularity of the Cayenne SUV model amongst Malaysian Porsche-philes.

Said model was introduced back in May last year and is assembled locally by partners Inokom at its facility in Kulim, Kedah. Said facility also stood as the Porsche brand’s first CKD facility of its kind established outside of Europe. Evidently, localisation also saw the locally-built Cayenne offered with an attractive base price of just RM550,000 sans options and insurance.

Produced in Kulim is the ‘base’ Cayenne variant, which is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbo petrol mill that serves up 335 HP and 450 NM. Paired with it is an 8-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission and active all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup, which grants 0-100 KM/H in just 6.2 seconds plus a claimed V-max of 245 KM/H.

When it was launched, the Cayenne CKD packed a bevy of additional standard features. Also, a bespoke Porsche Design timepiece (right) was also available amongst a bevy of options.

When initially launched, Porsche Malaysia offered the Cayenne CKD with a host additional standard equipment such as the Porsche Dynamic Lighting System (PDLS), 21-inch RS Spyder design alloy wheels, a Bose 14-speaker premium hi-fi audio suite, 14-way power-adjustable comfort front seats with memory function, as well as Park Assist powered by front, rear and surround view cameras.

Besides that, a catalogue of original Porsche Tequipment optional accessories is also available for customers. There’s also the optional Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur Package available for an additional RM58,000 that adds the Porsche SportsDesign exterior styling elements plus a sports exhaust kit, not forgetting a matching Porsche Design timepiece option priced at RM38,888 too.

The Cayenne CKD line continues to be 100% staffed by highly skilled Malaysians, according to Porsche Malaysia.

“Our local assembly facility in Inokom continues to support our growth, to meet the demand from sports car fans in Malaysia. This growth in demand also speaks volumes about our high quality – proof that a Porsche is built to the highest standards,” said Christopher Hunter, CEO of SDAP through a press release issued to announce the milestone.

Furthermore, Porsche Malaysia states that the Cayenne CKD facility underlines the importance of the Malaysian market for the brand, as well as affirming the long-standing partnership between Porsche and Sime Darby. Notably, the facility continues to be a hundred per cent staffed by highly skilled Malaysians, which empowers the futures of local communities, according to Porsche Malaysia.
