Hyundai Ioniq 6 has officially arrived in Malaysia!

Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) sees its EV lineup expanded today as the firm officially launches the much-anticipated Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV. Unlike in other neighbouring markets, this all-electric fastback enters the Malaysian markt in two main guises, namely the Max RWD and the range-topping Max AWD.

Starting with the Max RWD variant, this model sports a rear-mounted (RWD) single electric motor setup rated at 225 HP (168 kW) and 350 NM, enabling it to go from nought to 100 KM/H in 7.4 seconds. Meanwhile, the up-specced Max AWD variant is powered by a dual-motor setup with a combined output of 321 HP (239 kW) and 605 NM, shortening its 0-100 KM/H time to just 5.1 seconds.

Both variants are juiced by the same 77.4-kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack, granting the Max RWD variant with a maximum EV range of 614 KM (WLTP), while the top-specced Max AWD variant gets slightly lower EV range at 519 KM (WLTP).

The Ioniq 6 is one of world's fastest-charging EVs, with maximum DC charging rate of 350 kW!

Underpinning Hyundai’s E-GMP EV architecture with 800-volt battery system, both variants can support DC ultra fast charging at rate up to 350 kW. At this rate, the Ioniq 6 can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes – making it one of the fastest-charging EVs in the world. Meanwhile, there’s also the slower AC charging method capped at 11 kW, which fills up the Ioniq 6’s battery pack in just over seven hours.

You can also transform the Ioniq 6 into a giant moving power bank, thanks to its Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function. Via two electrical outlets (one inside and one outside), the Ioniq 6 can charge and power a variety of devices and appliances, as well as rescuing a stranded EV.

Visually, the Ioniq 6 stood as a fastback EV that truly showcases Hyundai’s quirky and daring design languages of late. Its grill-less front fascia features full-LED headlights with Hyundai’s signature Parametric Pixel lighting – a trademark for any Ioniq model. However, what truly sets the Ioniq 6 apart from other EVs out there is its iconic streamliner-style fastback silhouette, with the rounded greenhouse running all the way back to the tailgate and curved shoulder line to match.

At the rear part, the signature Parametric Pixel lighting can also be seen on the Ioniq 6’s full-width taillight bar, with the Ioniq 6 lettering placed just above them. Beyond its styling purposes, said streamliner roofline also helps the Ioniq 6 to achieve a drag coefficient rate of 0.21 – the lowest in any Hyundai models so far.

Elsewhere, both models ride on different sets of wheels, with the RWD variant getting the smaller 18-inch alloys, while the AWD model rolls on bigger 20-inch ones instead.

On board, this 2023 World Car of the Year award winner is primed with several premium equipment and tech amenities. Highlights include the 12.3-inch dual screen layout (instrument display and touchscreen infotainment), wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, dual-zone automatic A/C system, wireless charging pad, ambient lighting system, and many more.

While all said features come standard in both variants, the fully-automated panoramic sunroof is reserved only for the range-topping Max AWD variant.

Mirroring its tall-riding sibling, the Ioniq 6 also comes with the Hyundai SmartSense active driver assist (ADAS) suite. This includes features like smart cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, forward collision avoidance, blind-spot collision warning and avoidance, reverse parking collision avoidance assist, high-beam assist, and rear-cross traffic collision avoidance, and many more.

All in all, these features, plus other passive safety equipment including the seven airbags, grants the Ioniq 6 with a 5-star Euro NCAP crash test score.

Available in five colour options – Abyss Black Pearl, Nocturne Grey Matte, Biophilic Blue Pearl, Dive Blue Solid, and Gravity Gold Matte – the Hyundai Ioniq 6 starts at RM289,888 for the Max RWD variant, while the range-topping Max AWD variant commands a higher asking price of RM319,888

All prices listed above are on-the-road sans insurance, which includes an 8-year or 160,000 KM warranty for its EV battery system. For an extra RM10,000 you can extend the standard vehicle warranty to five years or 100,000 KM range, plus a 3-year or 50,000 KM free service package.

Bookings for the Ioniq 6 can be made via HSDM’s official Cl!cktoBuy booking platform, or at any authorised Hyundai outlets nationwide. Additionally, the first 30 customers who booked the Ioniq 6 will be entitled to a complimentary one-year Shell Recharge Gold membership, which is claimable upon vehicle delivery.
