- New Toyota FT-3e Is A Sporty & Futuristic Electric Crossover Concept
New Toyota FT-3e is an electric crossover concept with bold and edgy design
Japanese automotive giant Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has been quite busy during the ongoing Japan Mobility Show (JMS) this year, unveiling several new concepts under both Toyota and its luxury arm Lexus brands. Aside from the sporty FT-Se, Toyota has yet another sporty futuristic EV concept in store, dubbed as the Toyota FT-3e.
Unlike the FT-Se, the Toyota FT-3e is an electric crossover concept, featuring edgy and futuristic design. Touted as the sportier and more stylish version of the recently-unveiled Toyota Land Cruiser Se concept, the FT-3e features a fully-enclosed front grille that is paired with a slender LED light bar at the front, aside from its aerodynamic front hood that connects to its rakish front windscreen.
Moving to the side, the FT-3e sports a sculpted shoulder line and flushed door handles, plus slim exterior screens on both sides of its doors that display battery and charging information, as well as the cabin temperature. Elsewhere, you’ll also notice its sporty roofline featuring blacked-out pillars to make it look like a floating roof.
Things are more dramatic as we get to the rear part of the FT-3e, as this futuristic EV crossover comes with a distinctive dual rear spoiler mounted on its roof, plus a full-width LED taillight bar. Apart from that, the FT-3e’s derriere also comes with rugged lower bumper accent plus a pronounced rear diffuser, both finished in dark hue.
Similar to the FT-Se, the FT-3e sports a pretty elaborate and futuristic cabin design. Up front, this EV crossover cabin is laced with a single spoke steering wheel that is flanked by a trio of screen comprises of two portrait-oriented screens, plus a single digital instrument cluster placed on top of it. The centre infotainment display is being kept rather simple with no buttons and controls, with most of them placed on either side of said steering wheel – leaving the central console clear to make room for extended armrests and extra storage spaces.
Unfortunately, Toyota has kept the future production plans for the FT-3e under the garbs, for now...
Also similar to the FT-Se, Toyota has yet to reveal any plans regarding the production of this sporty EV crossover concept. The use of “FT” letters in its name refers to “Future Toyota”, which indicates that this might be a future production model, though the ‘future’ word here does not indicate whether it’ll be soon or much later. But regardless of the marque’s plan with the FT-3e, we’d reckon this funky and sporty EV crossover would make an excellent pairing with the marque’s current EV SUV model, the bZ4X.
