- Toyota FT-Se Concept Debuts As Marque’s Future Coupe EV
New Toyota FT-Se concept arrives as a preview to marque's future sporty EV coupes!
The Japan Mobility Show (JMS) 2023 so far has seen each of the iconic Japanese marques dishing out their latest sporty concept models, alongside other futuristic EV concepts. Aside from Mazda, Honda, Nissan, and even Daihatsu, it seems like Toyota is also joining the party, as the Japanese automotive giant reveals its latest sportscar concept, dubbed as the Toyota FT-Se.
Based on the Toyota Sports EV we saw a few years back, the FT-Se is a two-door sporty EV concept that features a typical mid-engined sports car silhouette. Similar to the Sports EV, the FT-Se is draped in striking orange body colour with contrasting black roof, now featuring several design cues like new massive air intake and physical door mirrors – making it look more production-ready than the Sports EV.
Another notable difference is that the FT-Se comes with a fixed roof, unlike the removable targa top we saw on the Sports EV. Elsewhere, this EV concept also dons a ducktail-style rear wing, prominent rear diffuser, while riding on production-ready wheels slated with Toyota GR badging.
Being a concept model, the FT-Se boasts a pretty futuristic-looking cabin, featuring a yoke-style steering wheel that is placed between two portrait-oriented displays that projects essential driving information to drivers. Aside from that, the cabin also comes with a dedicated digital instrument cluster, plus Recaro carbon bucket seats wrapped in blue Alcantara upholstery. Apart from the seats, more blue elements can be seen on the door cards, central console, and the lower part of the dashboard.
As expected, Toyota remains tight-lipped about the powertrain specifications for this FT-Se concept, only confirming that it will boast a fully battery electric (BEV) setup. The marque, however, only stated that they’ve taken it to their performance arm – Toyota Gazoo Racing – in helping to design and develop the FT-Se, with said concept featuring a unique driving software that can be updated in accordance with the driver’s skills.
As for now, Toyota has yet to reveal any plans regarding the production version of the FT-Se concept
Similarly, Toyota has yet to reveal any real plans regarding the production of the new FT-Se concept. However, with Toyota’s new EV battery technology roadmap promises better EV battery technology with sheer range and charging performance, perhaps a production version of this sporty coupe concept with hassle-free EV powertrain might come into fruition some time in the near future…
