Porsche adopts Google Built-In infotainment system for all of its cars in the future

Renowned German marque Porsche is partnering with tech giant Google with the goal of enabling even deeper integration of Google services in Porsche vehicles. Through this partnership, future Porsche models will come standard with Google Built-In infotainment system, following the footsteps of other brands like Volvo, Polestar, and many more.

Set to take place later in the middle of this decade, we can expect to see future Porsche models boasting a modern operating system with direct access to plethora of Google services, including Google Assistant, Google Maps, and more importantly, the Google PlayStore. The latter will further garner Porsche users access to a wide variety of apps, including streaming services like Spotify, Amazon Music, and many more.

While Porsche has yet to reveal details regarding this new OS, the German automaker said that “customers will continue to find the familiar user interface of the Porsche Communication Management system.” One thing for sure is that future Porsche users can expect enhanced user experience, with Google’s stellar services coming into picture.

“In addition to timeless design and exceptional performance, customers also want a seamless digital experience. This blended ecosystem results from the integration of platforms and apps that customers know from their end devices,” said Porsche chairman Oliver Blume.

Commenting on this significant partnership agreement, Google senior VP of Platforms and Ecosystem Hiroshi Lockheimer said, “We’re excited to partner with Porsche on their goal to bring innovative and helpful in-vehicle experiences to their customers. With an infotainment experience built on Android, drivers will be able to access the latest Google technologies and services in tandem with the best of Porsche design and branding.”

However, this new partnership between Porsche and Google is not an exclusive one, with the Stuttgart-based marque still not closing its doors for other software systems (i.e. Apple CarPlay), so long as they are “relevant for customers”.
