The Fengyun T9, Chery's latest plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV, has rolled off the production line at the Chery’s Qingdao Super Factory. The brand plans to launch it in China within the first quarter of 2024 priced between RMB150,000 to RMB200,000 (RM97,000 to RM130,000).

The Fengyun T9 is technically the PHEV offshoot of the Chery Tiggo 9 or Jaecoo 8 (it’s badged differently based on markets). It sits 4,820 MM long with a 2,820 MM wheelbase, 1,30 MM wide, and 1,710 MM. It would be available with both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) setups.

The T9 is powered by the Kungpeng Super Performance Electric Hybrid C-DM system, which combines a 1.5 turbocharged engine with permanent magnet synchronous motors. The T9 electric motor supports fast charging inputs, which can charge the battery from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes.

The 1.5-litre mill produces a power output of 115 kW and 220 Nm. In the RWD variant, said mill is mated with a 1DFT gearbox to deliver a combined output of 265 kW and 530 NM, while the AWD gets a 3DHT gearbox to deliver a combined output of 280 kW and 610 NM torque.

Chery claims a WLTC pure electric range of 100 KM (RWD) and 160 KM (AWD) with a combined range in excess of 1,400KM. Acceleration in the T9 would be 4.26 seconds (0 to 100 KM/H), whilst fuel consumption average reported reads at 4.2 litres/100 Km.

The Fengyun T9 features a closed grille fascia, concealed door handles, suspended roof design, large multi-spoke rims, and through-type tail lights.

The cabin dons a blue-and-white colour scheme with a six-seat layout. The Fengyun T9 deviates from the Chery Tiggo 9 by having an independent floating 10-inch full LCD instrument panel and a 15.6-inch 2.5K central infotainment display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip.

Additionally the Fengyun T9 would also offer additional features like a heads-up display (HUD), a 14-speaker premium audio system, and wireless phone charging pad.

With the Chery brand expanding its portfolio in Malaysia in 2024, plus the launch of the Jaecoo brand here too, could we possibly see this PHEV offered through either brands in Malaysia?
