- Geely & Baidu’s Jiyue 07 EV Saloon Revealed in China
The all-new Jiyue 07 EV saloon is borne out of Geely's collaboration with tech giant Baidu
In the midst of the SUV crossover craze around the world, it appears that saloons are thriving in the Chinese automotive market, as the Great Wall nation welcomes yet another sleek EV saloon to its market today. Say hello to the all-new Jiyue 07 – a sleek, fastback EV saloon borne out of the partnership between Geely and Chinese tech giant Baidu.
Established back in 2021 as Jidu Auto, Jiyue is majorly owned by Geely, which currently holds about 65% of the stake, while the remaining stakes are all owned by Baidu. As a result, the bulk of Jiyue’s production and assembly are handled by Geely, while the tech giant is in charge of the car’s on-board software, connectivity, and ADAS setup.
Back to the Jiyue 07, this EV saloon is the second model ever launched by the new marque, following the debut of the Jiyue 01 EV SUV earlier this year. Based on the Jidu Robo-02 concept, the 07 underpins Geely’s proprietary SEA platform that it shares with fellow Geely sister brands like Zeekr, smart, and even Volvo.
Positioned as a midsize (D-segment) liftback saloon, the Jiyue 07 boasts a very sleek facade, featuring muscular wheel arches, a sporty roofline, and a low beltline. Typical of many Chinese EV saloons nowadays, the 07 gets a pair of slim LED headlights at the front with a Y-shape design a la Polestar, plus a full-width light bar crowning above its front face.
Aside from the Y-shaped headlights and taillights, the Jiyue 07 also comes with a full panoramic glass roof
From the side, the Jiyue 07’s powered doors can be opened via buttons hidden on the B and C pillars instead of conventional door handles. Apart from its sleek panoramic glass roof, this fastback EV saloon also rides on massive five-spoke wheels with aerodynamic covers installed. Similar to the front, the 07’s single, full-width taillight unit also features a Y-shaped design at both ends.
The sporty Jiyue 07 has clinched both the iF Design Award 2023 and the 2023 Red Dot Design Award
With its sporty and sleek design, it comes as no surprise that the Jiyue 07 managed to win both the iF Design Award 2023 and the 2023 Red Dot Design Award, with the latter one shared with other cars including the Peugeot 408, Neta S, Toyota Prius, and many more.
Arriving in two main variants, the baseline Jiyue 07 model gets a single electric motor setup rated at 200 kW (268 HP), while juices are provided by a 71.4-kWh LFP battery pack. Meanwhile, the top-specced dual-motor AWD model boasts a peppier total system output of 400 kW (536 HP) and a larger 100-kWh NMC battery unit. Unfortunately, the Chinese marque has yet to reveal both the performance and range figures for the Jiyue 07.
Set to arrive later in mid-2024, the all-new Jiyue 07 is poised to go against fellow midsize EV saloons like the Xiaomi SU7, Tesla Model 3, and many more. As for now, both Geely and Baidu have yet to reveal the tentative prices for this sleek EV saloon, though we can expect them to be in the same ballpark as its fellow competitors.
