Kiwi Man Builds Custom ‘Raptrailer’ For His Ford Ranger Raptor
The 'Raptrailer' is a custom-built dual-axle trailer made by New Zealander Lawrence Fisher. (Image: Facebook/Lawrence Fisher)
Pictured here is a custom built trailer that’s made to match up perfectly with a Ford Ranger Raptor. This was the fruit of one die-hard Ranger Raptor owner's labour in New Zealand named Lawrence Fisher who shared it on Facebook recently.
Affectionally named the ‘Raptrailer’, Fisher built this custom tandem-axle trailer using three Ford Ranger flatbed tubs. Two tubs were cut and merged together over a custom-made galvanised chassis construction with a pair of six-stud axles. The wheels and tyres came off a previous generation Ranger Wildtrak instead.
The build saw Fisher use no less than three standard Ford Ranger flatbeds. Two were merged and retails much of their base functions - i.e. tailgates, lights, tow hooks, and side steps. (Image: Lawrence Fisher/Facebook)
Based on the images Fisher posted on Facebook, both tubs were welded at the front, thus allowing the original tailgates to remain functional at each end. This also means both sets of lights – and perhaps both tow hooks too – also reportedly remain functional.
Retained too are the steps in the side of the tubs, though it does appear to be primed with standard-width wheel arches as seen in lower-end guises of the Ranger. Finishing things off, Fisher also had the finished build painted in white and even donned ‘Raptor’ decals on it.
The exact dimensions of this custom-built ‘Raptrailer’ weren’t disclosed, but it is estimated to be similar to the regular Ford Ranger’s standard flatbed – about 2.5 to 3 metres long and 1.5 metres wide. Effectively, the ‘Raptrailer’ is able to double the cargo haulage capacity of any Ford Ranger it’s hitched to.

Fisher reportedly said he wanted to build this trailer since first purchasing his first Ford Ranger Wildtrak in 2015. He has since replaced that with his current Ford Ranger Raptor model that’s pictured above with his ingenious ‘Raptrailer’ build.
While he has no plans to build more examples for others to order, Fisher did express interest towards building another single-axle version of this trailer, plus another with a tipping function built into it. Overall, this is one undeniably cool way to maximise the Ford Ranger Raptor’s utilitarian abilities indeed.
Clockwise: We've had quite the year with the latest Next Generation Ford Ranger in XLT Plus, Wildtrak, Platinum, and Raptor 2.0 Bi-Turbo Diesel. See details below.
We’ve had a go in the slightly watered down 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo Diesel variant of the Ranger Raptor earlier this year, which you can read or watch by clicking here and here. We’ve also sampled the ‘basic plus’ XLT Plus and range-topping Wildtrak variants prior.
