Latest third-gen Mitsubishi Trition pick-up truck garners full five-star rating from ASEAN NCAP.

Though not launched in Malaysia just yet, the new third generation Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck has got plenty of good things going for it ahead of which. The latest plus point comes this week as the truck earned a full five-star rating from the ASEAN NCAP crash-testing and assessment body.

To be more specific, the model tested is the Thai-built 2023MY Triton variant that’s equipped with both ABS and ESC, as well as Mitsubishi’s latest ‘Diamond Sense ADAS’ suite.

The latter adds Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Forward Collision Mitigiation (FCM), Blind-spot Warning (BSW), Lane-Change Assist (LCA), as well as Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), amongst many others.

Noteworthy is the fact that the new Triton stands as the first pick-up truck in class to earn said rating under the ASEAN NCAP body’s latest 2021-2025 protocol that features a newly added motorcycle safety rating category.

The five-star rating for the Triton stems from the pick-up truck’s impressive total score of 74.41 points. This, in turn, sees the new Triton sit as one of the safest vehicles in segment having scored well in this updated and more rigorous testing protocol put in place.

Other noteworthy details include the Triton’s full 8.00/8.00 score in side impact tests for the protocol’s Adult Occupation Protection (AOP) front. The Triton also achieved a respectable 13.07/16.00 in the frontal impact tests.

Moreover, the new Triton tested by the ASEAN NCAP body also earned full scores in the frontal and side impact tests under the protocol’s Child Occupant Protection (COP) front.

The new third-gen Mitsubishi Triton is expected to launch in Malaysia sometime in Q1 of 2024.

Presently on sale in neighbouring Thailand and Philippines, the new third-gen Mitsubishi Triton is set to enter the Malaysian market soon – as early as the first quarter (Q1) of next year (2024).

Expect similar pricing as the outgoing model which currently retails between RM109,000 and RM155,000.
