- Upcoming Electric Porsche Macan Gains Augmented Reality Display
Upcoming new Porsche Macan electric in development prototype form pictured. The model is set for a full reveal very soon.
Full interior details of Porsche’s upcoming new electric Macan SUV have been revealed ahead of the model’s full unveiling. Similar to the latest-gen Panamera, the still unofficially named Macan electric will borrow the Driver Experience control module as first seen in the Taycan.
First glimpse of the Macan electric's interior reveals similarities to what's seen in the Taycan, as well as other recent Porsche models - i.e. latest-gen Panamera and refreshed Cayenne.
Essentially, it sees physical driving controls being grouped together instead of being behind different menus on a touchscreen. Speaking of screens, the Macan electric will feature three in total led by a 12.6-inch digital instrument panel that now boasts built-in navigation with Apple Maps and Google Maps too.
Moreover, drivers will also be able to control the head-up display (HUD) with augmented reality (AR) tech – a first amongst production Porsche models - via the screen too. It harnesses environmental data and the position of the car, along with cameras, to run a live feed to the driver and display real time information.
A first for any production Porsche mode, the Macan electric will offer drivers with a head-up display (HUD) suite featuring augmented reality (AR) display tech.
Predictably, the same system also hosts some driver assistance systems functions too, namely things like activated Adaptive Cruise Control. Through which, it sees the selected distance to the vehicle in front virtually laid over the road with a blanket of dots. Warnings can also be displayed through this AR display.
Next comes a 10.9-inch central touchscreen infotainment loaded with Porsche’s latest tech, followed by an optional 10.9-inch passenger display. The latter allows passengers to adjust infotainment or navigation settings, as well as stream videos via apps such as TikTok, even whilst the car is moving as a special film technology applied here prevents distracting drivers.
As seen in the Taycan and recently refreshed Cayenne, the Macan electric's dash will house up to three digital displays in total.
Similar to Tesla, there will be a selection of driving games present too, and users can play them while the car is being recharged. But unlike Tesla, said games doesn’t employ the use of the car’s actual steering wheel when playing virtual driving games through it. Apart from all this, Porche has kept mum about other details surrounding this highly anticipated new EV model.
Porsche had already detailed prior of the Macan electric’s chassis, which will feature a dual-motor setup plus rear-axle steering, two-valve shock absorbers with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). Altogether, Porsche promises the Macan electric will stand as the sportiest in class too.
