- CES 2024: Hyundai Motor Group’s Supernal Debuts eVTOL Concept
The electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicle product concept was unveiled at CES 2024 by Supernal, an Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) company of Hyundai Motor Group.
The S-A2 is built to carry four passengers and a pilot at a speed of 120 mph while cruising at 1,500 feet above the ground.
This V-tail aircraft can travel distances of 25 to 40 miles, meeting the needs of typical urban operations. It seeks to lessen traffic congestion while providing more environmentally friendly and effective transportation services with a battery-electric drive.
Supernal claims that upon entering service, its car will run as silently as a dishwasher, with a noise level of 45 dB during cruising and 65 dB during vertical takeoff and landing.
It is projected that this car will go on sale in 2028. Supernal aims to reduce obstacles to entry and produce a premium product at a reasonable price by utilizing Hyundai's mass production capabilities.
Jaiwon Shin, president of Hyundai Motor Group and CEO of Supernal said: “From the beginning, Supernal has been on a mission to create the right product and the right market at the right time
"The unveiling of S-A2 demonstrates our unwavering commitment to deliver on that mission with a safe, efficient vehicle design that provides a clear path to market entry. By leveraging our talented 600-person team, the vast technical and business capabilities of Hyundai Motor Group and trusted aviation suppliers around the world, Supernal is ready to deliver a new era of flight.”
