Malaysia-bound BYD Seal Teased On Instagram, Will Likely Launch Soon

BYD Sime Darby Motors Malaysia took to Instagram earlier today with the cryptic teaser post featured above. Though a specific car wasn’t mentioned or shown in any shape or form, the post instead contained a slogan promising something that’s “Faster than your morning coffee.”

The post was accompanied with a caption asking users if they had any idea what said slogan was referring to. Of course, the answer is pretty obvious through the accompanying #SealTheSpeed hashtag. This is of course the firm’s official teaser for its upcoming third model, that being the BYD Seal.

Based on the teaser featured above, it seems we may not have long to wait before BYD SD Motors Malaysia officially launches the BYD Seal EV fastback saloon.

We’ve known for some time now of BYD SD Motor Malaysia’s intent of introducing the sleek four-door fastback for the Malaysian market. In fact, the firm has teased the model twice, briefly at first during the Atto 3’s local  debut in late 2022, and again last month during its first anniversary carnival.

The latter was organised exclusively for customers, albeit with doors locked throughout its display stint that prevented many from taking a proper look inside its cabin. Despite which, the hype this EV fastback saloon generated is palpable.

BYD SD Motors Malaysia hasn’t revealed an official launch date yet. However, CariCarz.com has learned that dealers have issued invites for exclusive customer preview events slated to take place this month on 19 Jan and 21 Jan. With that, expect an official launch to take place around the same time.

Based on the firm’s product strategy for both the Atto 3 and Dolphin, and how competitors have done with their rivalling products, we can likely expect the Seal to arrive in several guises. In fact, we could see something similar as how the model is marketed in Thailand.

We can also likely expect BYD SD Motors Malaysia to offer the Seal across several guises. In neighbouring Thailand, three are available - Dynamic RWD, Premium RWD, and AWD Performance.

In the Kingdom just north of our border, the BYD Seal comes in base Dynamic RWD, mid-spec Premium RWD, and AWD Performance guises. The base-spec variant gets a 61.4 kWh-sized iteration of BYD’s ‘Blade’ LFP battery, whilst the other two get the larger 82.5 kWh capacity version.

All variants accept 7 KW AC charging inputs, but only the bigger battery duo accepts up to 150 kW DC rapid-charging input – the base spec variant’s DC charging input is capped at 110 kW.

In terms of range, the mid-specced Premium RWD variant has the most with its claimed 650 KM (NEDC) figure. The peppiest of the lot is of course the AWD Performance guise, and this dual-motor version promises 530 HP and 670 NM outputs that enables 0-100 KM/H sprints in 3.8 seconds.
