Heads up owners of the second-gen and DNGA-based Perodua Alza MPV. It appears the selected units will need to undergo a 'Quality inspection' exercise performed by Perodua through its service centres.

It appears that the second-generation DNGA-based Perodua Alza MPV is being recalled over the same faults discovered in its Toyota-badged Veloz twin. This was confirmed through a letter to owners that surfaced on social media this week.

The letter to owners issued by Perodua detailing the 'Quality inspection exercise' that surfaced through Facebook earlier this week.

Based on said letter, Perodua isn’t dubbing the effort as a recall, but a ‘Quality inspection exercise’ instead. Recall or not, it effectively sees Perodua urging owners of the DNGA-based Alza who’ve received this letter to set appointments and visit their service centres for the ‘inspection’.

Like the Veloz, Perodua’s inspection seeks to examine the front suspension components. As reported prior, counterparts UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) are in the midst of recalling selected DNGA-based models – namely the Vios and Veloz – to rectify faulty front suspension fitment issues.

Also worth noting is the fact that both these recalls by Perodua and UMWT aren’t borne our of the recent Daihatsu scandal.

Given their shared DNGA chassis base, a recall on the Alza (left) was somewhat expected. As a refresher, counterparts UMWT are in the midst of recalling both the Veloz (right) and Vios to rectify faulty front suspension fitment issues.

Apart from the Alza, other DNGA-based Perodua models like the new Axia (left) and Ativa (right) aren't affected just yet.

Given its shared base with the Veloz, a recall on the Alza was somewhat expected following the former Toyota-badged twin’s initial recall. In the same letter, the national carmaker details that the inspection takes an estimated 1 hour to perform.

Apart from the Alza, no other DNGA-based Perodua models – i.e. Ativa and new Axia – are known to be affected by this issue. At the time of writing, Perodua hasn’t issued an official statement on the matter, but one is expected soon.
