MG Motor Malaysia has made its official market entry by launching both the MG4 and MG ZS EV.

Following a lengthy teaser campaign, MG Motor Malaysia has finally made its official market entry by launching both the MG4 and MG ZS EV. Ahead of their debuts today, both models were previewed at a special media event, with the automaker already accepting orders for both EVs since then.

The MG4 will arrive in four variants for the Malaysian market, starting with the Standard baseline model.

Starting with the MG4, this C-segment EV hatchback arrives in four variants for our market, with the range starting with the baseline Standard variant. This entry-level model gets a single, rear-mounted (RWD) electric motor setup rated at 170 PS (125 kW) and 250 NM, which allows for a respectable 0-100 KM/H sprint time of 7.5 seconds. Juiced by a 51-kWh battery pack, the MG4 Standard boasts a maximum WLTP range of 350 KM.

Moving on to the MG4 Luxury variant, this middling EV hatch gets a peppier 203 PS (150 kW) and 250 NM-rated RWD motor setup while being juiced by a larger 64-kWh NMC battery for a longer WLTP range of 435 KM. Despite boasting a peppier motor setup, the MG4 Luxury has a slower century sprint time of 7.7 seconds due to its heavier weight.

Meanwhile, the upper-mid MG4 Extended Range model makes do with a much peppier motor setup rated at 245 PS and 350 NM that allows for a sprightlier 0-100 KM/H sprint time of 6.1 seconds. Thanks to its bigger 77-kWh battery pack, this model boasts a decent WLTP range of 520 KM—the highest in the whole MG4 range.

Topping the MG4 range in Malaysia is the top-specced MG4 XPower, featuring a dual-motor AWD setup.

Sitting at the top of the range is the MG4 XPower, which gets a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup rated at 435 PS (320 kW) and 600 NM, enabling a rapid century sprint time of 3.8 seconds. Using the same 64-kWh battery pack as the Luxury model, the MG4 XPower gets a discounted WLTP range of 385 KM due to its peppier motor setup.

Visually, the MG4 stood as the sportier car of the two, featuring a sleek hatchback body style with tons of sharp design elements that all reflect MG’s latest design ethos. Key features present on the exterior include all-LED lighting with a sharp design and 17-inch wheels, while variants above the MG4 Luxury come with twin aero rear spoilers, two-tone paintwork with a black roof, as well as larger 18-inch alloy wheels.

On board, the MG4 gets a pretty decent cabin space design brimming with modern creature comforts. Included here are the 7-inch digital instrument panel, fabric and leather upholstery, MG Pilot ADAS suite, plus a 10.25-inch floating infotainment display with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, seamless connectivity with MG’s iSMART mobile app, and the “Hello MG” voice command suite.

The MG ZS EV SUV only comes in a single variant for the Malaysian market.

Moving on to the second model launched today, the Malaysian-bound MG ZS EV is based on the facelifted 2021 model year version of the ICE-powered ZS model MG offers in other markets. Positioned as a B-segment EV SUV, the MG ZS EV comes in a single variant for our market.

This sole variant is primed with a single, front-mounted (FWD) electric motor setup rated at 176 PS (130 kW) and 280 NM, which enables a century sprint time of eight seconds. Juice is provided by a 51.1-kWh battery pack that garners a maximum WLTP range of only 320 KM.

On the charging front, the MG ZS EV accepts a 7 KW AC charging input, which sees full re-charges (0–100%) done in 8 hours. DC charging, on the other hand, is capped at just 50 kW, and this sees 10-80% re-charges done in 54 minutes.

The MG ZS EV is positioned as a B-segment EV SUV, set to go against the likes of BYD Atto 3 and Chery Omoda E5.

Design-wise, the MG ZS EV boasts an SUV crossover body style while also featuring some EV-specific design features like a grill-less front end that also houses its charging port. Other than that, this EV SUV also gets full LED lights front and back while riding on 16-inch alloy wheels finished in a two-tone hue.

On board, the MG ZS EV is respectably well-furnished, as it features a 7-inch digital metre panel display, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, automatic climate control with rear vents, a wireless charging pad, as well as a class-leading panoramic glass sunroof. Similar to the MG4, the MG ZS EV comes standard with the MG Pilot ADAS suite.

Being a more practical choice of the two, the MG ZS EV boasts a decent boot space measuring 448 litres, which can be further expanded to 1,187 litres thanks to split-folding rear seat benches.

The MG4 starts from RM103,999 in Malaysia, while the sole MG ZS EV model is tagged at RM125,999.

More importantly, it appears that MG Motor Malaysia has updated the prices for both the new MG4 and MG ZS EV. Compared to what’s been revealed back during its preview, the all-new MG4 now starts at RM103,999 for the Standard, RM128,999 for the Luxury, RM148,999 for the Extended Range, and RM158,999 for the range-topping XPower model. Meanwhile, the MG ZS EV is also tagged lower at RM125,999, making it one of the cheapest models in the segment.

Both the MG4 and MG ZS EV will come with both vehicle and battery warranties, plus a 1-to-1 battery replacement scheme offered by MG Motor Malaysia.

All models would come standard with a 7-year or 150,000 KM vehicle and an 8-year or 160,000 KM battery warranty, plus a 1-to-1 battery replacement should your battery’s health dip below 70% during the warranty coverage.

On top of those warranties, MG Motor Malaysia also offers a free 7.7 kW wallbox charger for both the MG4 Standard and MG ZS EV, while buyers of the MG4 Luxury will get a complimentary 11 kW wallbox charger. Special for both the MG4 Extended Range and XPower buyers are the complimentary 1,000 charging credits from DC Handal and JomCharge.
