A touting driver who <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/08/loke-klia-taxi-touting-betrays-nations-image" target="_blank" style="">allegedly scammed and assaulted two Chinese tourists at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has been caught.</a>
Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed the arrest, revealing that the driver’s Perodua Axia was immediately seized. “After our undercover operation at KLIA yesterday, JPJ successfully tracked down and detained the driver. The car has been impounded and an investigation paper has been opened,” he said in a Facebook post, <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/06/taxi-touting-at-klia-still-on-the-rise-despite-crackdowns" target="_blank">praising JPJ for their quick work.</a>The incident, which went viral on social media, sparked outrage after the victims shared their ordeal.

The two women had just landed at KLIA2 on September 15 when a man approached them and offered a RM60 ride to their hotel. Thinking it was a fair price, they got into the car, which also had the driver’s wife inside.
But instead of stopping at the hotel, the driver allegedly kept driving into a dark, deserted area before suddenly demanding RM836. The women said they were trapped, terrified, and one of them was choked and slapped several times. <span style="background-color: transparent; font-size: 12pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-variant-emoji: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;">Their calls to police didn’t go through, leaving them feeling helpless until hotel staff heard their screams and rushed to free them.  Starting Sept 30, <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/09/ron95-subsidy-app-counters-and-terminals-payment-options-skps-up-take-low" target="_blank" style="">Malaysians can enjoy RON95 petrol at just RM1.99 per litre under the government’s new BUDI95 targeted subsidy programme, </a>Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced.
The programme will allow every Malaysian aged 16 and above with a valid driving licence to purchase up to 300 litres of subsidised RON95 per month simply by using their MyKad at the pump, counter, or participating station apps like Setel and CaltexGo.“This is a privilege exclusively for Malaysians. <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/09/pmx-rm199-ron95-from-30-sept-mykad-based-access-non-citizens-rm260" target="_blank">All citizens will automatically enjoy this benefit without registration,</a>” Anwar said in a Bernama report.

The phased rollout begins Sept 27 with police and military personnel, followed by Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) recipients on Sept 28, before going nationwide on Sept 30.&nbsp;Ride-hailing drivers may apply for additional allocations beyond the 300-litre cap, while <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/09/mykad-is-the-best-option-for-ron95-subsidy-no-new-card-required-mof" target="_blank">non-citizens will pay market rates, currently around RM2.60 per litre.</a>Anwar emphasised that this initiative is part of the government’s efforts to better target subsidies and reinvest savings back into the people.&nbsp;<span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:400;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre;white-space:pre-wrap;">

“These savings will go towards healthcare, education, and rebuilding key infrastructure, including schools and clinics damaged in the recent Sabah floods,” he said during a monthly assembly at the Prime Minister’s Department.The Prime Minister added that past savings from targeted diesel subsidies have already funded the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) cash aid, which provided RM100 to eligible Malaysians.“This is a bold step for the long-term benefit of the nation. We want the people to feel real impact, not just cheaper fuel, but better schools, clinics, and roads,” Anwar said, urging Malaysians to support the initiative.

The Ministry of Finance will share more technical details in the coming weeks and has advised the public to refer only to official channels for accurate updates.

<a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2024/06/ev-special-plate-still-in-technical-stage-optional-for-current-ev-owners" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">The Transport Ministry (MOT)</a> has set aside RM3.5 million this year to help 50,000 taxi, rental car and school bus drivers get protection under the Self-Employed Social Security Scheme (LINDUNG Kendiri).
Its Minister Anthony Loke said the government will cover 70% of contributions through Perkeso, while MOT will sponsor the remaining 30%. The funding comes entirely from<a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/08/rm110-million-collected-from-special-plate-sales-since-2023-mot" target="_blank" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; white-space-collapse: preserve;"> special number plate (NPI) bids</a>, not the annual Finance Ministry budget.

“This is why we decided to channel the NPI proceeds into something meaningful. It tripled last year’s allocation to expand coverage and raise awareness about social security,” he told Bernama.Last year, about <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/02/report-special-number-plates-generated-rm459-million-for-b40" target="_blank" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; white-space-collapse: preserve;">22,000 drivers benefited when Perkeso paid 90% of their contribution and MOT covered the rest. </a>"The expanded initiative will now reach more drivers including 35,000 taxi and rental car drivers and 15,000 school bus operators nationwide," Loke added.Human Resources Minister Steven Sim welcomed the continued partnership, urging drivers to take advantage of the scheme. “Many drivers don’t even realise they’re covered and miss out on claims when something happens. Please check and claim what you’re entitled to,” he said.

Perkeso reported that from January to early September, 829,771 self-employed workers contributed to LINDUNG Kendiri, including nearly 190,000 in passenger transport. Over RM21 million in benefits have been paid to 5,712 recipients during the same period.

The take-up for<a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/09/ron95-subsidy-app-counters-and-terminals-payment-options-skps-up-take-low" target="_blank" style=""> the government’s new Subsidised Petrol Control System (SKPS)</a> has been slower than expected, with many transport operators citing a lack of awareness and difficulty using the online registration platform.
All-Malaysian Taxi Association (GTSM) president Kamarudin Mohd Hussain told Bernama that the process is simple in theory, but many older taxi drivers are unfamiliar with digital applications.“Most of the basic information is already available, but elderly drivers struggle to navigate the online steps. I registered myself but was marked ineligible because my car was still in the workshop"I will have to update the details once it is ready. Situations like this cause confusion and make some drivers wait before signing up,” he explained.

Since registration opened on September 15, <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/09/over-150-companies-registered-for-targeted-ron95-subsidy-scheme-kpdn" target="_blank" style="">only 1,790 companies representing 5,449 vehicles have registered, compared to an estimated 100,000 eligible vehicles nationwide.</a>
To encourage more participation, GTSM plans to hold roadshows in 12 to 14 states and produce video guides to help less tech-savvy drivers.&nbsp;“If more drivers register, more will benefit from lower operating costs,” Kamarudin told the daily news portal.Express Bus Operators Association secretary S. Sathies noted that the process can feel tedious because of the many documents required.

“Some documents have expired or gone missing. For some operators, it feels like too much work, especially for those not used to online systems. We help our members with the process, but non-members must first join the association,” he stated.
Charity groups are also just beginning to learn about SKPS. Mohamad Izzuddin Yakub from Team Rompin Charity Organisation, which runs five free ambulances and hearses, said their fuel bills can reach up to RM7,000 per vehicle monthly.&nbsp;“This subsidy will be a huge help. We will register immediately and inform other operators so that more can benefit,” he said.

Industry players have urged the government to simplify the process and ensure that the subsidy truly lowers transport costs and ultimately brings down the price of goods for the public.
