The Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) and the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) will implement contra lanes and counters to manage congestion at Malaysia-Singapore entry points for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays.

Baharuddin Tahir, Johor Immigration Department Director told Bernama that the agency is planning to activate 10 additional manually operated contra counters and six auto contra lanes at the BSI bus terminal.

Additionally, 12 counters in the car zone and 12 hybrid counters in the motorcycle lanes will also be operational during this period. Activation of these lanes will be determined by traffic volume, flow, and critical congestion levels, with announcements to be made 30 minutes before implementation.

Contra lanes will be utilised primarily during peak hours where inbound traffic from Singapore is high and outbound traffic from Malaysia is low; hence the exit lanes will be utilised to accommodate the influx of vehicles from Singapore.

To facilitate smooth travel for motorists, real-time traffic updates will also be provided via social media and displays at the bridge throughout the festive season.

Baharuddin further added that the number of border crossings is also anticipated to be high based on the trend from January to March, with 41.4 million visitors recorded at BSI and KSAB.

Last year, 357,265 visitors were recorded at both entry points on the first and second days of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
