Toyota Crown Crossover Gets Rugged ‘Landscape’ Trim in Japan
The Toyota Crown Crossover gains a rugged ‘Landscape variant in Japan, featuring off-roading trims and equipment.
The Toyota Crown Crossover is getting a new special edition variant for its 2024 model year (2024 MY) update in Japan. Cordially known as the Toyota Crown Crossover Landscape, this new special variant boasts several off-roading equipment and gear to make this jacked-up saloon ready to tackle the outdoors.
Inspired by the Crown Outdoor Concept revealed prior, the Crown Crossover Landscape benefits from a suspension lift kit that sees its ride height increase by 25 MM compared to the standard Crown Crossover, which boasts a pretty tall ride height to begin with. This jacked-up makeover is complemented by new 18-inch wheels shod in 245/60R18 all-terrain tyres.
The outdoorsy makeover continues as the Landscape model sports a wider bolt-on fender extension finished in ‘Gori Gori Black’ hue, plus red mud flaps to minimise any mud splattering when going off-road. While the car comes standard with a towing hitch and larger fog lamps at the back, the roof rails and basket shown here are optional add-ons. Unlike the concept, however, the Crown Crossover Landscape is not offered with LED bars on its roof.
The off-roading makeover appears to be quite mild as we get inside the Crown Crossover Landscape’s cabin, with the only notable difference being the ‘Landscape’ lettering primed on its front dash.
As expected, the Crown Crossover Landscape boasts no improvements on the powertrain front, as this rugged crossover saloon benefits from the same hybrid (HEV) setup as the Crown Crossover RS model. This setup features a 2.4-litre 4-cyl nat-asp petrol mill that is mated to two hybrid electric motors at each axle to deliver a total system output of 268 HP. Power is then transmitted to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox and Toyota’s proprietary ‘E-Four Advanced’ all-wheel drive (AWD) system.
As expected, the rugged Toyota Crown Crossover Landscape is a JDM-exclusive product.
Offered exclusively to the Japanese domestic market (JDM), the all-new Toyota Crown Crossover Landscape is now available for purchase, starting at JPY 6.85 million (RM214,456), excluding the optional accessories like the roof rack. With the production of the Crown Crossover scheduled to end by December this year, we can expect this rugged special edition to be limitedly produced, although Toyota did not mention any specific allocations for it.
Closer to home, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) unfortunately did not offer the Crown Crossover officially into our market, with the only way for Malaysians to get them is via grey importers or recond car dealers. Judging by the array of special edition JDM models flocking into our market in recent times, there might be a faint chance that we’ll get to see this special Toyota Crown Crossover Landscape end up in one of many recond car dealers here.
