The new 2024 season of the highly competitive Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS kicks off with its season-opening races this weekend at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit (SIC).
Certainly, all eyes will be trained on home favourite Tunku Abu Bakar Sultan Ibrahim as he guns for another podium. Driving the number 888 Triple Eight JMR team’s Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo alongside new co-driver Jordan Love, the Tunku Putera Johor is poised to up the ante from his 2023 efforts.
Gunning for a podium - and perhaps a win - is local favourite Tunku Abu Bakar. The Tunku Putera Johor competes this weekend alongside new co-driver Jordan Love for the Triple Eight JMR team.

In the 2023 season, Tunku Abu Bakar had impressed many with a series of podium-finishes, which also included a sensational double-podium finish at SIC during the series’ season finale. Tunku Abu Bakar also ranked third overall in the championship standings last year.
"We had a very strong performance here last year, and I'm eager to build on that momentum with Jordan. Our primary goal is to get a good start for the championship. If all goes well, we'll definitely be pushing for a win this weekend," said Tunku Abu Bakar to local press at SIC earlier today.
Though this season’s 33-car entry list is poised to offer fierce competition, the Triple Eight JMR outfit will be banking on Tunku Abu Bakar's experience and consistency from last season, as well as the fresh energy of his new co-driver Love. Altogether, this should make him a strong contender to watch.
