- Jetour X70 Plus & Dashing Set for Malaysia Autoshow 2024 Debut
Jetour is poised to make its first local debut at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, featuring both the X70 Plus & Dashing SUVs.
Another day, another Chinese brand is coming into our local automotive market, and this time around it’s yet another sub-brand from Chery known as Jetour. Arriving under the newly-formed entity named Jetour Automobile Malaysia Sdn Bhd, this new Chinese marque is poised to make its inaugural appearance in Malaysia at the upcoming Malaysia Autoshow 2024 (MAS 2024).
The Jetour X70 Plus is positioned as the marque's midsize SUV fighter, arriving in both five- and seven-seat variants.
For our market, Jetour is poised to introduce two new SUV crossovers, namely the X70 Plus and Dashing. Starting with the X70 Plus, this midsize SUV crossover is offered in both two- or three-row seating configurations, each with either five or seven seats. Dimension-wise, the X70 Plus measures 4,749 MM long, 1,900 MM wide, 1,720 MM tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,745 MM.
On the powertrain front, we can expect the Malaysian-bound X70 Plus to boast the same specs as we saw on other right-hand drive (RHD) international markets like Indonesia. Set to arrive in full-ICE version for now, the X70 Plus is offered with a familiar 1.6-litre 4-cyl TGDi mill built by Acteco rated at 194 HP and 290 NM. Said engine is then mated to a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox, which facilitates power delivery to its front wheels (FWD).
For a very obvious reason, the Jetour X70 Plus will be renamed for our Malaysian market, which will be revealed once this midsize SUV makes its first public debut at the MAS 2024.
Besdies the X70 Plus, Jetour Malaysia is also poised to introduce the Dashing sporty SUV into our market.
Moving on to the Jetour Dashing, this SUV crossover is positioned as the sportier and smaller twin of the X70 Plus. Positioned as the brand’s 5-seater C-segment SUV fighter, the Dashing measures 4,590 MM long, 1,900 MM wide, 1,685 MM tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,720 mm, making it somewhat similar to the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro dimension-wise.
Also similar to both the X70 Plus and Tiggo 7 Pro, the RHD-specced Dashing harnesses a 1.6-litre 4-cyl TGDi mill rated at 194 HP and 290 NM. Said mill is also mated to a 7-speed DCT unit that helps to drive the front wheels (FWD).
For both models, Jetour Malaysia is poised to introduce them in only single, top-spec variants, with lower variants set to arrive some time later in the future. Off the bat, both the Dashing and X70 Plus will be offered in three exterior colourways, namely Black, White, and Grey.
Both the Jetour X70 Plus (left) & Dashing (right) will make their inaugural public debut at the upcoming MAS 2024.
Set to make their first public debut at the upcoming Malaysia Autoshow 2024, Jetour Malaysia will open the registration of interests (ROI) for both the Dashing and X70 Plus SUVs ahead of their eventual debut some time later in Q3 or Q4 this year. Both models will initially arrive fully-imported (CBU) from China, with localisation plans in both semi- (SKD) and complete knock-down (CKD) forms set to follow up in the near future.
On top of the two SUVs mentioned prior, Jetour Malaysia will also launch the rugged Jetour T2 SUV some time later in Q1 2025.
Besides both the X70 Plus and Dashing, Jetour Malaysia is also planning to introduce the rugged Jetour T2 into our market. Also known as the Jetour Traveller in its native Chinese market, the T2 is the brand’s rugged, off-road-ready midsize SUV that is slated to arrive in Malaysia some time later in Q1 2025.
So folks, what do you think of this new China-badged contender? Which one of these Jetour models are you looking forward to the most? As always, don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments down below…
