National fuel retailing giant Petronas saw the opening of its first filling station in the bustling South American nation of Brazil late last week.
Located in the city of Sao Paulo, the station’s opening was confirmed through a LinkedIn post shared by the head of the Petronas Partnership Project, who also serves as the Strategic Project and New Business Director of SIM Distribuidora de Combustíveis, Erik Martimiano da Silva.
Said station’s establishment was borne out of a partnership between the national oil giant with Brazil’s Argenta Group, which also operates Brazil’s Rede de Postos Monte Carlo fuel and service stations network.
The first Petronas station in Brazil - and perhaps Latin America - was borne out of a partnership with Argenta Group.
“We are very proud to be part of this historic moment for the fuel sector in Brazil, with the inauguration of the first Petronas gas station in the country,” said Erik in his Linkedin post. He also adds that the station will offer Formula 1 title-winning Petronas Primax fuels to Brazilian motorists.
Despite the enthusiastic reception, Petronas has yet to release an official statement regarding this effort in Brazil. And whilst this might be Petronas’ debut in Latin America, it’s not exactly its first overseas endeavour - Petronas did open and operate several stations in neighbouring Thailand until 2005.
Apart from this new station in Sao Paolo, it’s unclear if Petronas or its Brazilian partners will expand with more Petronas-branded stations just yet. Expansion is perhaps expected, but this also likely dependent on the brand’s reception amongst motorists in Brazil. KR
