Updated 2025MY second-generation (G42) BMW 2 Series Coupe in M240i form pictured.

German automaker BMW continues its efforts of updating its line-up, and the latest of which sees the Bavarian marque refreshing both its second-generation 2 Series Coupe (G42) and its hotter M2 (F87) twin.

Starting with the base 2 Series Coupe range first, BMW has given this compact two-door a mild aesthetic refresh. While we wont disagree that the styling tweaks are very minute, but there are new 18- and 19-inch (M240i) wheels, sharper LED headlights, and lightly restyled bumpers.

Exterior changes in the refreshed G42 2 Series Coupe are mild to say the least, but does see new headlights, restyled bumpers, new wheels, and an updated BMW M Sport Professional Package.

New here too are the Vegas Red and Skyscraper Grey metallic paint options, plus new Frozen Pure Grey metallic and Frozen Portimao Blue II metallic from the BMW Individual catalogue.

Take note though that only the range-topping M240i variant gains an exclusive new Zandvoort Blue hue – previously exclusive to the M2 only. Also revised is the M Sport Professional Package as it gains M Shadow Line Lights, Extended Shadowline trims, black rear spoiler, and the choice between red or blue M Sport brake calipers.

On board, it appears little has changed with the cabin of the 2 Series Coupe, though BMW Does note a reduction in physical control buttons, new air vent knobs, and waterfall lighting effect. Both the 230i and M240i variants get new steering wheels, the latter being a leather-wrapped M-badged flat-bottomed unit.

Changes with the interior are equally minimal, but does see fewer physical buttons now plus revised digital displays powered by the latest BMW Operating System 8.5.

A notable new option here are sports seats with additional massage and lumbar support.  As for trims, the M240i gains brushed aluminium ones as standard now, where as other variants gain new Fineline Light or Ash Grey Blue open-pore wood trim choices.

On the tech front, the BMW Curved Display module is now powered using the latest BMW Operating System 8.5 that boasts a new home screen design plus improved menu and navigation. This also means the instrument panel sees a redesigned display too.

Mechanically, BMW has ditched the diesel options, keeping the 2 Series Coupe petrol-only now through either a 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbo (220i and 230i) or 3.0-litre in-line 6-cyl turbo (M240i).

Mechanically, the biggest change here is the omission of diesel options for the 2025MY version onwards. Retained are the familiar 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbo mills rated at 187 HP (220i) and 248 HP (230i). The M240i also retains its signature 3.0-litre straight 6-cyl turbo mill offering 382 HP and 500 NM, which enables 0-100 KM/H in 4.3 secs (with xDrive AWD).

All powertrains are paired exclusively with an 8-speed automatic, but the option between rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (xDrive) remains. It’s also worth noting that the range-topping M240i variant benefits with Adaptive M Chassis, whilst the others make do with M Sport suspension and differential primed as standard.

Also refreshed is the second-gen (F87) M2 model, which caps off the 2 Series Coupe range. Again, changes here are rather minimal so to speak.

Those seeking faster thrills need not look past the also updated-for-2025 BMW M2 that sits atop the 2 Series line-up. That’s because the 2025MY version pictured sees its 3.0-litre in-line 6-cyl turbo heart has a raised new output of 473 HP – up from 453 HP.

The choice between an 8-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmissions remain, though peak torque depends on which you choose  – they’re capped at 600 NM in the former and 550 NM for the latter. In turn, it sees the automatic boast 0-100 KM/H sprint time of 4 secs (AT) and 4.2 sec (MT), whilst V-max reads at 250 KM/H or 285 KM/H with the M Driver’s Package.

Mechanically, the M2 sees a slight 20 HP power bump with its 3.0-litre in-line 6-cyl mill. It laos retains both its automatic and manual transmission choices.

Like the 2 Series Coupe, aesthetic changes are very mild indeed in this M performance special, but it does see new paintjob options added too. Wheels remain unchanged with 19- (front) 20-inch (rear) sizes, but they do feature a new “bright silver finish” option available.

On board, much of the changes mirror what’s done in the 2 Series Coupe – fewer buttons, plus new BMW OS 8.5 digital displays. M Carbon bucket seats are available as options, as is Alcantara-wrapping for the new steering wheel. Apart from what we’ve detailed, little else has changed.

Like the 2 Series Coupe, BMW is expected to begin delivering the refreshed M2 starting from Aug this year. What do you folks think, then? Are you digging the minute changes performed? As usual, share your thoughts in the comments below – and our social media pages…
