2024 Geely Boyue Launches In China – Will Next-Gen Proton X70 Look Like This?
New second-gen Geely Boyue has been updated slightly in its latest 2024MY guise pictured, and it recently went on sale in China. Its predecessor stood as the base for the Proton X70.
Chinese automaker Geely has been busy indeed, evident from our recent reports detailing a new variant of the Binyue and Emgrand models – original bases of the Proton X50 and S70 respectively. More recently though, the firm has officially begun marketing its second-generation Boyue model.
Those familiar with that nameplate will remember that its first-gen iteration stood as the base of the now ubiquitous Proton X70 C-segment crossover SUV. And whilst we await its upcoming face-lift iteration, it has gained a brand new ‘relative’ in China in the form of the second-gen Boyue mentioned.
Though roughly the same size as the current Proton X70, the second-gen Boyue dons a striking new design.
First revealed last year, the new second-gen Boyue is in fact an all-new car from the ground up, and it recently received mild revisions for its latest 2024MY form pictured. Evidently clear is this second-gen model’s sharper and more striking styling, which even features dot-matrix through-type lights.
Depending on variant, notable touches include two-tone colourway, black aerokit, 19-inch black wheels, red-painted brake calipers, and more. Despite the radical restyling, dimensions of the second-gen Binyue aren’t far off from its first-gen predecessor – it sits 4,510 MM long with a 2,701 MM wheelbase, 1,865 MM wide, and 1,650 MM tall.
Underneath, the second-gen Boyue adopts the new Geely GEEA2.0 electronic and electrical architecture, which in turn enables a host of new and improved tech on board. Key amongst which are a slew of active driver assistance (ADAS) features that included active braking, lane-keeping and lane-cantering assist, traffic sign recognition, and much more.
New Geely GEEA2.0 sees this second-gen Boyue adopt a slew of advanced new tech on board. Key amongst which is the 2K resolution portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment that's also powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip.
New on board too is the cabin and dash layout, the latter sporting a 10.25-inch digital LCD instrument panel plus a 2K resolution 13.2-inch portrait-oriented central touchscreen infotainment suite powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip and Galaxy 2.0 operating system. The latter also offers a wide array of connectivity through Bluetooth, wi-fi, and 4G mobile network.
Notable premium features present here – depending on variant, of course – include a wireless charging pad, powered tailgate, as well as an Infinity premium audio suite that’s reportedly reserved for the top-end guise.

On to powertrain, you won’t find the familiar 1.5-litre 3-cyl turbo petrol lump as you would in any current Proton X70. Instead, the Chinese market second-gen Boyue harnesses a 1.8-litre 4-cyl turbo petrol unit instead that’s rated at 181 HP and 290 NM.
Said mill is paired with a 7-speed DCT automatic, and it reportedly offers a WLTC-rated fuel economy average of 6.29 litres/100 KM. Moreover, this powertrain also comes with four selectable drive modes – Economy, Comfort, Sports, and Smart.
In China, the new second-gen Geely Boyue is marketed with a starting price of US$18,000, which roughly equates to RM84,870.
As for price, the new second-gen Geely Boyue featured enters its Chinese domestic home market starting roughly from US$18,000 – approx. RM84,870.
Though we’re certain the advanced new tech on board are attractive, the striking new look might divide opinions. However, we’ll leave that for you to gauge. So, would you fancy an all-new generation Proton X70 in the near if it looked like this? Share your thoughts in the comments below…
