2024 Hyundai Kona Korean Specs Unveiled – 3 Variants, All with Sporty N Line Versions
The 2024 Hyundai Kona made its global debut in Dec last year, unveiling a whole new futuristic look that carries the marque’s current design language. While only revealing the three powertrain types that the new Kona will don, Hyundai has remained rather quiet on the detailed spec of the car, until now.
Hyundai has revealed details about the new Kona for its South Korean domestic market. As previously reported, the 2024 Kona will come in three powertrain types, namely all-electric EV, hybrid (HEV), and internal combustion engine (ICE). All three variants of the Kona will receive a sporty N line version, too.
For the Korean market, the ICE-powered Kona will sport either a 1.6-litre turbocharged T-GDi or a 2.0-litre nat-asp Atkinson Cycle mill. The former is equipped with Hyundai’s proprietary Continuously Variable Valve Duration (CVVD) technology, a la Honda’s VTEC, that grants it a power output of 195 HP and up to 265 NM.
The 2.0-litre mill, on the other hand, produces an estimated 147 HP and 179.5 NM, that is mated with an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) – Hyundai’s version of the conventional CVT automatic transmission.
Meanwhile, the next-gen Kona HEV harnesses a 1.6-litre GDi engine that works in tandem with a hybrid electric motor system to deliver a combined output of 139 HP and 265 NM. Unfortunately, Hyundai has yet to unravel the powertrain spec for the Kona EV.
In terms of design, both the ICE and HEV variants of the Kona are primed with Seamless Horizon Lamps, just like the new Staria MPV and the marque’s flagship saloon, the Grandeur. The EV variant, however, deviates slightly from the rest, as it comes with the pixelated version of the same Seamless Horizon Lamps – the first-ever Hyundai vehicle to sport them.
All variants of the next-gen Kona rides on two-tone 19-inch wheels, with the EV variant getting a slightly different wheel design from the other two.
As the new Kona was designed around an EV concept, much of the elements from the EV variant trickle down to both the ICE and HEV variants. This includes the 3D garish and skid plate that don the Kona’s front bumper, in place of the standard radiator and intake grille on standard combustion cars.
The ICE and HEV variants also come with contrasting black wheel arch cladding that helps folks like us to differentiate it from the EV variant.
In terms of size, the new Kona slowly verging into the C-segment SUV territory, as it now measures 4,355 MM long – 150 MM longer than the previous model it’s poised to replace. Bigger size means that the new Kona comes with a bigger cabin space, with its legroom and headspace grew by 77 MM and 11 MM respectively.
As per any modern vehicles nowadays, the 2024 Kona is laced with various advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features, such as Forward Collision-avoidance Assist (FCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA), Blind-spot View Monitor (BVM), High Beam Assist (HBA), and many more.
As mentioned earlier, each of the Kona variants will get a special sporty N Line version, which adds a more aggressive front and rear designs with wing-shaped bumper, dual tailpipes, as well as silver-finished side skirts. Aside from that, the Kona N Line also boasts a black roof, while riding on a set of 19-inch N Line alloy wheels. Inside, the N Line spec grants the Kona’s cabin with metal foot pedals and N-brand gear shift lever.
Now that the South Korean specs of the Kona have been unveiled, Hyundai is poised to reveal more details about the global-spec Kona, as well as the detailed spec on the EV variant later in March this year.
