2024 Hyundai Kona Electric Specs Unveiled – Up to 214 HP, 490 KM Range

The 2024 Hyundai Kona made its global debut back in Dec 2022, where it comes with both pure combustion and electrified powertrains. With the Korean spec of the next-gen ICE-based Kona variants already unveiled, the South Korean giant automaker now has revealed the detailed spec for the Kona Electric EV variant.

The second-gen Kona Electric comes in two variants, namely the Standard and Long Range. The former features a 48.4-kWh battery pack that supplies up to 342 KM of travel range, while the latter sports a bigger 65.4-kWh battery that delivers a maximum travel range of 490 KM.
Both specs are powered by a front-mounted (FWD) electric motor, with an output of 154 HP (114.6 kW) and 255 NM for the Standard variant. Meanwhile, the range-topping Long Range model will get a beefier 214 HP (160 kW) and 255 NM-rated motor.

Juicing up the new Kona Electric from 10%-80% will take about 41 minutes via DC fast charging. However, Hyundai has yet to disclose the maximum charging rate for both variants of the Kona Electric. Said battery pack comes with a battery preconditioning system that ensures secure charging and range performance even during extreme weather conditions, especially in winter conditions.

This all-electric crossover can also be used as a moving power station, as it comes with the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, supporting both internal and external charging of electrical appliances. This handy feature supports a maximum power output of 1.63 kVA in North America and 3.13 kVA in Europe.

The new Kona Electric sports the standard EV single pedal driving mode, dubbed as the i-Pedal, as well as the new Smart Regenerative System. The latter system promises a better and more optimised regenerative braking based on information from forward traffic flow.
Just like any modern EVs nowadays, the 2024 Kona Electric is booted with Hyundai’s latest SmartSense Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and safety systems. This includes features like a Level 2 autonomous driving, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA), Blind-spot View Monitor (BVM), Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) and Driver Status Monitor (DSM)

In terms of dimension, the new Kona Electric is noticeably bigger than the model it replaces, measuring 150 MM longer, 25 MM wider, while its wheelbase grew by 60 MM. This bulk-up grants it a much roomier interior space that surely provides more comfort to the passengers, while having more cargo space at the same time.

Speaking of interior, the 2024 Kona Electric boasts a modern-looking cabin space, headlined by the floating horizontal C-pad with integrated dual 12.3-inch panoramic display screens. Drivers, on the other hand, will get a massive 12-inch head-up display (HUD) and a steering wheel with multiple driving controls ergonomically laid out around it.

Said display screens sport the Surround View Monitor that displays the video of the car’s surroundings, all supported with an Over-the-Air (OTA) software update system, ensuring the Kona Electric will always run on the latest and safest software. Topping-off the cabin amenities is the Bose Premium Sound System, powering the 8-speaker layout plus a subwoofer, for good measure.
