JPJ Impounds 73 Vehicles Operated By Foreigners Over Various Offences

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) recently conducted a major operation targeted towards vehicles operated by foreigners. According to local daily Berita Harian, the operation saw the department seized no less than 73 vehicles from foreigners over various offences.

Known as Operasi Bersepadu Pemandu Warga Asign (PeWA), the operation was conducted by JPJ with the cooperation of Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPj). A total of 228 notices were also issued, with 117 of which cited to foreigners whilst the remaining 111 were issued to local vehicle owners.

Director General of JPJ Aedy Fadly Ramli, who was appointed just last week, also revealed that up to 72 notices were issued to foreigners for not possessing valid driving licences, a further 22 notices issued to foreigners in vehicles without valid road taxes, and another 22 notices to foreigners in vehicles without insurance, plus one bearing false registration numbers.

Amongst the key offences detected through this operation included foreigners not possessing valid driving licences, no valid road taxes, operating vehicles without valid insurance coverage, and some were also detected with false vehicle registration numbers. (Image: JPJ Facebook)


“A total of 68 notices were also issued to locals for not possessing valid driving licences, not having valid road taxes (21), not having valid vehicle insurance (21), and one notice was issued for bearing false registration,” added Aedy to members of the press that spoke to him whilst he was on ground conducting the operation.

Furthermore, Aedy adds that both JPJ and PPj will summon local vehicle owners cited to advocate them and curb them from allowing foreigners to use and operate their vehicles. Aedy emphasised the importance of this exercise as a key towards avoid unwanted issues and complications.

“This joint operation is focused on foreigners riding motorcycles and driving vehicles without valid licences, expired road taxes, absence of vehicle insurance coverage and compliance with technical regulations,” added the newly appointed JPJ Director General further.
