The Penang government remains committed to advancing its green mobility initiatives as part of the Penang2030 vision. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow made this announcement during the launch of the JAC logistic electric truck, a collaboration between Scan Global Logistics and HTH Corporation.

He further stated that the adoption of the electric truck not only is a technological achievement, but also a move towards decreasing carbon footprints and promoting sustainable trade practices for both Scan Global Logistics and HTH Corporation.

The launch was also attended by Penang Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jason H'ng Mooi Lye, HTH Corporation chairman Datuk Seri Lee Chin Heng, and Rickard Ingvarsson, CEO of Scan Global Logistics (Asian region).

In his speech, Chow underlined the state's commitment to sustainable practices. "Our green mobility initiative prioritises and supports investments to enhance resilience and establish Penang as a leader in promoting zero-emission mobility."

Furthermore, this sustainable project is consistent with the Federal Government's request to encourage both domestic and international sectors in adopting sustainable techniques to reduce carbon emissions and promoting renewable energy.

Chow also emphasised the state government's intention to increase the number of EV charging points in Penang. One example is the partnership between the state government, Penang Island City Council (MBPP), Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP), and Penang Green Council (PGC), which resulted in the installation of complimentary electric motorcycle charging stations in strategic areas around Penang.

Additionally, the state has encouraged private entities to install EV charging stations within their buildings or facilities to facilitate EV charging within the state. With these efforts Penang’s carbon footprint will be reduced by 50% by 2030.
