Previewed: JAC T9 Diesel & EV Pick-Up Range - Est. RM120,000 & RM200,000
JAC Motors, China’s top light truck exporter for 14 consecutive years, is set to make a significant impact in Malaysia. This week, the marque’s Malaysian arm previewed its premium T9 pick-up truck series locally, with plans to launch them by Jan 2025.
Two variants were shown to local press, and they were the T9 Grand ES turbo-diesel 4x4 and, most notably, the groundbreaking all-electric T9 EV 4x4. The latter is set to become Malaysia’s first all-electric 4x4 pick-up truck on sale when launched.
Both will be marketed by EvolvElectric Motors Sdn Bhd - the exclusive distributor of JAC pick-up trucks in Malaysia.
Besides shares looks, both the T9 Grand ES and T9 EV come equipped with the brand;s ADAS 2.0 (Advanced Driver Assistance System) package, all-round disc brakes, Driver Monitoring System, and seven airbags,. In double-cab form, both T9 variants measure 5,330 MM long with a 3,110 MM wheelbase, 1,965 MM wide, and 1,920 MM tall.
Both the diesel and EV variants also come equipped with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.4-inch infotainment system, the latter primed with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity suites as well.
Ahead of its local market entry, the T9 Grand ES 4x4 has earned a 5-star safety rating from ANCAP (Australian New Car Assessment Program), underscoring JAC’s commitment to exceptional safety and performance standards.
Underneath, the T9 Grand ES harnesses a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel 4-cyl lump rated at 178 HP and 410 NM. Said mill is paired with a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission that’s built with both comfort and versatility in mind.
For a limited time, JAC Motors have opened early pre-orders for the oil-burning model detail with a special introductory price of under RM120,000. Said figure includes a 5-year, unlimited mileage warranty as well. Take note this deal is offered to the first 300 customers who book it before Dec 31, 2024.
The JAC T9 EV, on the other hand, is set to make waves as Malaysia's first fully electric 4x4 pick-up truck. Aptly, this model combines zero-emission driving with the rugged durability and performance of a traditional 4x4 pick-up truck.
Underneath, the T9 EV features a dual-motor setup, with the front e-motor producing 70 kW (94 HP) whilst the rear e-motor delivers 160 kW (215 HP). Combined there’s 230 kW (308 HP) and 516 NM in play, thus enabling 0-100 KM/H sprints in 8.4 secs - respectably zippy for a pick-up truck. Top speed, however, is electronically capped at just 140 KM/H.
Said dual-motor driveline is juiced by an 88 kWh LFP battery pack, which offers a claimed WLTP-rated driving range of 340 KM. As for charging, said battery pack accepts AC 11 KW and DC 88 kW inputs..
The T9 EV is now available at an introductory price of under RM200,000, and said figure includes a 6-year or 200,000 KM warranty. Similar to its oil-burning twin, this offer is limited to the first 100 customers who place bookings for it before Dec 31, 2024.
All T9 pick-up models are available in five colours: red, black, dark grey, silver, and white. They can be pre-ordered online through EvolvElectric Motors' Facebook page with a booking fee of RM 1,000.
Additionally, final prices for both the T9 Grand ES and T9 EV will be announced at its official launch that’s presently slated for Jan 2025. Initial deliveries are also slated to start then, with JAC promising all units delivered will be 2025 model year units too.
