Xiaomi unveiled the prototype version of the SU7 Ultra EV hypercar which features a tri-motor setup rated at 1,526 HP.

Fresh from launching its first EV product earlier this year, it appears that Xiaomi isn’t slowing down for a bit as the Chinese tech giant unveiled the high-performance prototype version of its EV saloon, known as the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra.

Built with an intent to tackle the Nurburgring record for fastest EV laptime, the SU7 Ultra prototype underpins the same Modena platform used on the standard SU7 EV, albeit featuring Xiaomi’s new e-motor setup known as the V8s. In fact, this performance EV features a tri-motor setup, comprising two of the new V8s motors plus one V6s motor borrowed from its ‘civilian’ twin.

Rated at 1,526 HP (1,548 PS), the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra prototype is more potent than some of the world's most powerful hypercars.

As a result, the SU7 Ultra prototype gets a mind-blowing total system output of 1,526 HP, making it more potent than some of the world’s most powerful hypercars. This sheer output figure also allows the SU7 Ultra to go from 0-100 KM/H in just 1.96 seconds, 0-200 KM/H in 5.96 seconds, while a 0-300 KM/H sprint takes only 15.07 seconds.

More details on Xiaomi’s new HyperEngine V8s motor, the tech giant claims that this high-performance e-motor can rev at up to 27,200 RPM, where each one of them can deliver up to 570 HP and 635 NM of twist.

Besides the monstrous tri-motor setup, the SU7 Ultra also gets a beefier battery setup, featuring a CATL Qilin 2.0 LFP battery pack that is developed for racing. This high-performance battery pack boasts a pretty high maximum power output of 1,330 kW, which allows the motors to push 1,073 HP even when the battery level is below 20%.

For stopping power, the SU7 Ultra gets a high-performance brake setup from AP Racing, which features six-piston callipers for all four brakes, plus 42 MM ultra-thick discs for the front and 32 MM for the rear.

The SU7 Ultra prototype is decked with tons of carbon fibre parts, which helps to reduce its weight to less than two tonnes.

Xiaomi won’t just settle for an ultra-high-performance powertrain system for the SU7 Ultra, as this performance EV has been put on a strict diet regime, plus a full carbon makeover that sees all of its 24 body panels now made of carbon fibre. As a result, the SU7 Ultra weighs only 1,900 KG, making it lighter than both the Weissach Package-equipped Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and the Tesla Model S Plaid with Track Package installed.

To help the SU7 Ultra conquer the infamous ‘Green Hell’, Xiaomi has also decked the car with some serious aero parts, with the most notable one being its massive GT-style rear wing. Combined with its carbon fibre performance body kit featuring a large front splitter and side skirts, this high-performance EV prototype is capable of generating downforce at up to 2,145 KG.

As we mentioned earlier, Xiaomi aims to make the SU7 Ultra prototype the fastest all-electric vehicle to lap the Nurburgring Nordschleife, which is scheduled to take place later in October this year. Said record is currently held by the manic Volkswagen ID.R at 6:05.336 for the non-production prototype category, while the Rimac Nevera holds the record for the fastest production EV at 7:05.298.
