- Xiaomi Denies YU7 EV SUV Launch Delay
Xiaomi has denied that the debut of its highly anticipated YU7 electric SUV has been delayed, stating that the vehicle will be available in the previously scheduled June or July timeframe, as announced by CEO Lei Jun. This response follows a report by Bloomberg which implied a delay in the launch schedule.
Countering these rumours, Xiaomi's Head of Public Relations, Wang Hua, stated on his Weibo account that the launch date remains unchanged.
The EV startup even chose to have a smaller presence at the Shanghai exhibition this year compared to its prominent role at last year's Beijing car show, where it debuted the SU7 sedan.
The demand for electric SUVs is rapidly increasing due to customer preferences and technological advancements. This has intensified the anticipation for the release of the YU7, which is expected to be a competitor for Tesla's Model Y.
Xiaomi has recently faced criticism following a fatal accident involving an SU7 model. The vehicle, traveling at 97 kph with its advanced driver assistance system activated, crashed into a roadside pole, resulting in the deaths of the driver and two passengers.
This incident has raised concerns about the safety of Xiaomi's smart driving technology.
