- Loke: RTS Link 83% Complete & On Schedule For 2027 Operation
The Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link connecting Johor Bahru, Malaysia, and Singapore is at 83% completion stage and is on schedule to begin operations on Jan 1, 2027, says Minister of Transport, YB Anthony Loke.
Loke also confirmed that system installation by RTS Operations Systems Sdn Bhd (RTSO) is expected to commence by the end of this year.
According to him further, "The completion of the rail infrastructure will pave the way for RTSO to start installing critical system components, including trackwork, rolling stock, signalling systems, and power supply and distribution."
The announcement was made during a signing ceremony for the parking space sale and purchase agreement between Malaysia Rapid Transit System Sdn Bhd (MRTS) and Coronade Properties Sdn Bhd.
Furthermore, Loke also stated that the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex building at Bukit Chagar is at the superstructure building stage after which agencies should be able to start installing systems and equipment at the CIQ complex from Aug 2025.
On the matter of mitigating traffic congestion, Loke announced that the Ministry of Transport (MPT) is developing a traffic distribution plan for the Iskandar Malaysia region in collaboration with local authorities.
All the initiative aims to complement the ongoing infrastructure development in Johor Bahru and improve the overall traffic situation in the city and surrounding areas.
Loke also added that the access to the CIQ complex for vehicles would be through Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Jalan Tebrau, Jalan Jim Quee, and Jalan Tunku Azizah therefore to address traffic issues, the government is prioritising an investment of over RM200 million in public transport infrastructure around Bukit Chagar.
It is expected that the investment on public transportation at the area is to cover current and future needs taking into account the potential growing number of daily RTS Link passengers.
Additionally, public support facilities, particularly parking spaces, are also being looked at with the construction of a new multi-storey Park 'N Ride facility at Bukit Chagar, offering 1,500 parking lots for RTS Link users on top of 781 extra parking spaces provided at Coronation Square.
