Minister of Transport, YB Anthony Loke announced today beginning 1 Sept, the role of offering periodic motor vehicle inspection on behalf of Jabatan Pengakutan Jalan (JPJ) will be opened to multiple parties instead of Puspakom alone. This move was approved by the cabinet last year.

However, despite being open to multiple parties, you can only go to Puspakom presently as none of the other parties have been given the greenlight to operate. Only Puspakom is authorised to conduct motor vehicle inspections under the new provisions of the Road Transport Act (Act 333).

Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that, under Section 126 (1) of Act 333, Puspakom is now officially permitted to provide vehicle inspection services at designated centres and through mobile units across the country.

In a press conference, Loke noted that Puspakom will very soon face competition from other industry players with nearly 50 companies expressing interest in providing these services. Just two companies currently have officially submitted their applications for a licence to operate as motor vehicle inspection service providers.

Loke explained that this move aligns with the government's goal to foster a competitive service environment instead of being monopolised by any one party which indirectly make it more convenient for the public to access vehicle inspection services.

The closing date for the service providers applications is set for Oct 31, and the Ministry of Transport will evaluate all submissions before announcing the successful applicants.

Additionally, JPJ will continue to regulate and monitor the quality of vehicle inspection services rendered to ensure they meet established standards and provide high-quality service to customers.
