Making its debut at the Chengdu Motor Show 2024 today is the Zeekr 7X EV SUV—the brand’s Tesla Model Y fighter.

Following the initial teaser last month, Chinese premium EV marque Zeekr has finally unveiled its new family EV SUV model, known as the Zeekr 7X. Unveiled today at the ongoing Chengdu Motor Show 2024 in China, the 7X is touted to be the next Tesla Model Y fighter, aside from being Zeekr’s first midsize SUV model.

The similarities between the 7X and Model Y lie in their dimensions, as the former measures at 4,825 MM long, 1,930 MM wide, and has a wheelbase of 2,925 MM, thus making it slightly bigger than the popular Sino-American EV SUV.

On the design front, the Zeekr 7X also boasts a sleek midsize SUV body style just like the Model Y, featuring the brand’s new design language known as ‘Hidden Energy’. Key design highlights present here include the Stargate interactive LCD display at the front that acts as the car’s main headlight unit, full-width LED taillights, and flushed door handles while riding on 19- and 20-inch alloy wheels with multi-spoke design.

Thanks to its slightly bigger dimension, the Zeekr 7X boasts a pretty spacious cabin, laced with tons of tech and comfort amenities. Strictly available in a two-row seating layout, the 7XZ’s cabin features up to 32 storage compartments, while its standard boot space measuring 616 litres provides the SUV with some real-world practicality.

As for the equipment, present at the front dash is a large central infotainment display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, which is mated to a smaller digital instrument cluster. Also present here are the four-spoke steering wheel with the gear shifter column on the right side, leaving some space for the wireless charger and extra storage compartments at the central console.

Life in the rear seats of the 7X is also decent, as passengers get their own dedicated infotainment screens stowed behind the front seats—provided that you opt for the top-spec variant. Other than that, all the rear seats are both heated and ventilated, while the high-spec four-seater model gets a dedicated control panel at the centre armrest. Completing the cabin amenities list is the expansive panoramic glass roof that comes standard with an electric blind.

Underpinning Zeekr's proprietary PMA2+ architecture, the Zeekr 7X shares many of its powertrain and battery specs with the Zeekr 007 EV saloon.

On the powertrain front, the all-new Zeekr 7X is available in both single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD versions, with the former rated at 310 kW (415 HP), while the latter delivers a total system output of 475 kW (637 HP). Zeekr claims the 7X AWD version can complete a 0-100 KM/H sprint in just 3.8 seconds, thus putting it on par with the top-spec Tesla Model Y Performance AWD.

As for the batteries, the Zeekr 7X shares the same 800-volt PMA2+ architecture as the Zeekr 007 EV saloon. The smaller 75-kWh unit uses the brand’s proprietary Golden Brick battery technology, granting the SUV 605 KM of CLTC range. Dubbed as the fastest-charging battery technology in the world, Zeekr claims its Golden Brick battery can be charged from 10-80% in just 10.5 minutes.

Apart from that, the 7X is also offered with a larger 100-kWh CATL Qilin battery pack, which extends the EV SUV’s maximum EV range to 780 KM (CLTC).

Also similar to the Zeekr 007 is the Haohan intelligent driving 2.0 system present on the 7X EV SUV. This safety driving suite is powered by two Nvidia Orin X chips, where it works with several external sensors and a LiDAR to provide the 7X with some autonomous driving capabilities.

Deliveries for the all-new Zeekr 7X are slated to commence the Chinese market later in September this year, although no pricing details were revealed by the Geely-owned EV marque. Beyond the Great Wall nation, the 7X will be made available in selected overseas markets some time later in 2025.
