2025 Chery Tiggo 9 Debuts In China – PHEV Variant with Up To 1,400 KM Range
Following Chery's announcement at Auto China 2024, the much-anticipated 2025 Chery Tiggo 9 and Tiggo 9 C-DM have officially debuted in China. Designed to cater to a wide array of consumer preferences in aesthetics, space, and performance, these models mark a major milestone for Chery in the Chinese luxury SUV market.
The 2025 Tiggo 9 is available in five different trims, with prices ranging from CNY 152,900 to CNY 203,900 (RM101,790 to RM135,720). Meanwhile, the plug-in hybrid Tiggo 9 C-DM comes in two trims, priced between CNY 165,900 and CNY 175,900 (RM110,448 to RM117,000). Both models offer 5- and 7-seater layouts, catering to varying customer needs.
The exterior of the 2025 Tiggo 9 retains a bold and commanding presence, featuring a larger, denser straight waterfall-style grille. The overall body shape, however, will remain as the previous model and feature hidden door handles, a floating roof design, roof racks and an electric tailgate but feature an updated thicker multi-spoke wheel design.
The 2025 Tiggo 9's measurements are the same as the 2024 model – 4,820 MM long, 1,930 MM wide, 1,699 MM tall with a wheelbase of 2,820 MM. However, depending on the model and transmission selection, the curb weight could range from 1,719 to 1,832 KG.
An upgraded 2.0 TGDI Kunpeng series engine producing 257 HP and 400 Nm of torque powers the 2025 Tiggo 9. With this engine, buyers can choose between an 8-speed automatic gearbox (8AT) or a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (7DCT), which offers 7.5 to 8.5 litres of fuel per 100 KM (WLTC) of usage.
Some trims also come equipped with a continuous damping system and a real-time four-wheel-drive setup, offering seven driving modes for enhanced versatility.
Inside, the 2025 Tiggo 9 carries over its premium design, featuring soft-touch materials throughout. The cabin will also feature a 24.6-inch dual-screen infotainment powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip. Additionally, there will also be a 50-inch AR-HUD (Augmented Reality Head-Up Display) further enhancing the driving experience.
The 2025 Tiggo 9 will also get level 2 ADAS systems which includes forward collision warning, rear cross-traffic collision alert, and hill-start assist.
Now as for the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) Tiggo 9 C-DM, it will share the same exterior and interior design as the regular Tiggo 9, but will be with dimensions measuring 4,820 MM long, 1,930 MM wide, 1,712 MM tall, and a wheelbase of 2820 MM. The C-DM’s curb weight is slightly higher at 1,935 KG.
The C-DM variant will feature Chery’s fifth-generation ACTECO 1.5-litre TGDI hybrid engine, producing 154 HP and 220 Nm of torque, combined with a front electric motor that delivers 221 HP and 390 Nm of torque. This system is paired with a 3-DHT (three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission) automatic gearbox.
The C-DM’s hybrid battery will be a 19.43-kWh ternary lithium unit from Gotion and is able to give a full electric driving range of 82 KM WLTC. It is stated that the overall combined range achievable is more than 1,400 KM WLTC.
Chery hopes to further solidify its place in the cutthroat luxury SUV market with its introduction by providing a varied portfolio that strikes a mix between performance, style, and technology.
