It appears that the Selangor state government has acquired itself quite a high-tech piece of kit that fixes potholes quickly. Called a ‘Jetpatcher’, the device was recently accrued by the state government from the UK at a cost of roughly RM1 million, reports Selangor Journal.
The Jetpatcher was revealed at the launch of the state government’s recent Mega Road Resurfacing Project 2024 earlier this week.
Speaking with the online portal mentioned, State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim said the high-tech machine patches a pothole in just 15 minutes. In contrast, conventional methods instead take roughly one hour to complete a similar patch job.

Izham adds the Jetpatcher can even be operated during light rain conditions, and that it requires minimal manpower – just two operators instead of the typical 15 – to complete repairs at each site. Moreover, the Jetpatcher also boasts the ability to complete up to 80 patches daily.
“The process involves cutting the hole to size, drying it, and then applying the patch. Rain can delay repairs by several days,” clarified Izhan further about regular methods. He also claims that the Jetpatcher delivers superior results and higher quality patches versus regular methods.
The Jetpatcher works by producing hot patching material, which ensures a solid and durable road patch. This results in improved quality and a more appealing finish, reports Selangor Journal further.
Initially, the Jetpatcher will be deployed to patch roads around Kuala Selangor with 15 trainees overseen by representatives from the UK. The Selangor state government says it plans to acquire more should results prove satisfactory. (Image: Selangor Journal)
Moreover, the Jetpatcher is said to be designed with environmentally friendly features, critically being its low carbon emissions. In turn, the aligns with the Selangor state government’s sustainable development goals.
