Richard Mille Splits Seconds For McLaren's W1 Hypercar With RM 65-01 Chronograph
Richard Mille has unveiled the RM 65-01 McLaren Automatic Split-Seconds Chronograph W1, the latest masterpiece to emerge from its collaboration with McLaren, the prestigious British supercar brand.
This watch is the fourth of their creation, drawing inspiration from McLaren's latest supercar, the McLaren W1, a trailblazing successor to the iconic McLaren F1 (1992) and McLaren P1 (2013).
The McLaren F1 division boasts a relatively understated design but a powerful 1,258 horsepower "epic" all-new V8 hybrid drivetrain, putting it well ahead of its plug-in hybrid competitors, the Lamborghini Revuelto and the Ferrari SF90.
Additionally, it features ground effect aerodynamics inspired by Formula 1 that can produce up to 2,205 lbs. of downforce, a sprint time of less than 12.7 seconds from zero to 186 mph, and a restricted top speed of 217 mph.
Speaking of speed, the RM 65-01 McLaren W1's movement, which is supported by rubber mounting rings on the chassis rather than a traditional casing ring, has a "rapid winding" system that makes it possible to quickly recharge the 60-hour power reserve using a unique push piece composed of orange Quartz TPT®.
In keeping with its designation as a "driver's watch," the RM 65-01 McLaren W1 has a function selector crown that resembles a car's gear selector. The functions of the winding (W), date setting (D), and hand setting (H) can be quickly switched between by wearers.
Rubber strap echoes aerodynamic angles of W1 engine cover and spoilers, while chronograph push-pieces and rapid-winding buttons are inspired by lightweight seats found in McLaren supercars.
The RM 65-01 McLaren W1 is ideal for daily use because of its variable geometry winding rotor, which can be adjusted to suit the wearer's lifestyle, and the 480-part movement's inherent robustness, which guarantees that the W1 is the ultimate supercar in line with McLaren's "performance everywhere" philosophy.
It is possible to fully appreciate the grey electroplasma treatment of the grade 5 titanium baseplate and the black PVD and grey electroplasma treated grade 5 titanium bridges when looking through the crystal.
The RM 65-01 McLaren W1 exemplifies the seamless collaboration between Richard Mille and McLaren. As Andrea Bermudez, Global Marketing Director at McLaren Automotive, puts it: “The W1 supercar is a symphony of power, precision, and design—qualities that are perfectly reflected in RM 65-01 McLaren W1.”
