Speaking at the 30th ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof highlighted that the transportation sector has become a key driver of job creation and economic growth across ASEAN.
He added that efficient transport systems generate economic and social benefits which include increased investments, trade, tourism and urban development that helped enhance connectivity and created significant job opportunities.
Fadillah also praised the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project which serves beyond connecting two cities, fostering regional cooperation and boosting local economies.
Looking ahead, Fadillah called for inclusion of vulnerable communities when planning transport strategies which will address global megatrends revolving around sustainability, digital transformation and artificial intelligence.
Additionally, the Transport Minister Anthony Loke, who chaired the meeting, further underscored Malaysia’s commitment to ASEAN’s transport agenda. He highlighted achievements under the Kuala Lumpur Transport Strategic Plan 2016-2025, including policies on sustainable air and maritime transport and advancements in logistics.
