- MBM Establishes New Regional Logistics Centre In Johor
MBM has established its new Regional Logistics Centre Malaysia facility located in Senai Airport City, Senai, Johor recently.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has established a new and major regional logistics hub in Johor, and it aims to strengthen the brand’s parts supply and after-sales service across 20 nations in the Asia Pacific region.
The new Regional Logistics Centre Malaysia (RLCM) is located at the Senai Airport City next to Johor’s Senai Airport, and it’s managed by Mercedes-Benz Logistics Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd. It will play a pivotal role in distributing spare parts, accessories and tools for both Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and vans across the ASEAN region.
The facility’s construction also saw a hefty investment of RM189 million in paid-up capital by MBM. Through which, MBM also plans to increase its value-chain investment to RM1.5 billion by 2035. In other words, MBM is setting on a long-term growth path for this new RLCM.
Klaus Ziemsky, Head of Mercedes-Benz Global Parts Logistics Operations, delivering his opening remarks at the official launch of the new Mercedes-Benz RLCM in Senai, Johor.
“This facility is one of Mercedes-Benz’s most important logistics projects in the last decade, leveraging Johor’s strategic location and skilled workforce to enhance our operations,” says Jan Fischer, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Parts Logistics Asia Pacific.
Jan also emphasised the investment’s reflection of Malaysia’s importance as a strategic logistics hub, which in turn also reaffirms Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to exceptional customer care across the Asia Pacific region.
“Mercedes-Benz’s decision underscores Malaysia’s appeal as a business destination, creating high-skilled jobs and reinforcing our position as a preferred investment location,” echoes MIDA CEO Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, who was also present to officially launch the new facility.
The new Mercedes-Benz RLCM spans over 1 million square feet and is designed to optimise logistics efficiency. A key task for it will be distributing spare parts, accessories and tools for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and vans across ASEAN.
Spanning over 1 million square feet, the new RLCM facility is designed to optimise logistics efficiency using state-of-the-art tech, the latter comprised of advanced forklifts, handheld scanners, mobile workstations, as well as a Very Narrow Ailse (VNA) system that maximises storage capacity.
The facility also has autonomous forklifts and cleaning robots operating, with plans to incorporate more future automation upgrades through drones and automated storage systems.
Moreover, the new Mercedes-Benz RLCM in Senai, Johor operates with high levels of sustainability. It integrates environmentally friendly practices such as on-site photovoltaic (PV) system and Green Building Index (GB) certification, which are also aligned with the marque’s global sustainability goals.
State-of-the-art tech adopted here include advanced forklifts, handheld scanners, mobile workstations, Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) system, and more.
Adding to which is the fact that environmental data such as CO2, waste and water metrics are reported according to Mercedes-Benz’s Environmental, Social, and Governance Reporting Standards (ESRS).
Lastly, besides logistical support, the new RLCM aims to elevate Malaysia’s talent pool by providing specialised training in logistics and supply chain management, which will contribute to growth for both the local and regional economies.
