- Jaguar Type 00 Concept Previews Marque’s New All-Electric Era
Jaguar’s new and radical Type 00 Concept previews the marque's upcoming models under its new electric era.
Unmistakable. Unexpected. Dramatic. Those are the superlatives Jaguar has used to describe its new all-electric concept, the Jaguar Type 00. Pronounced as ‘zero-zero,’ this radical concept uses the same ‘Type’ moniker as other previous Jaguar models, while the two zeroes refer to its status as model number zero under Jag’s new electric dawn.
What’s good about having such a radical concept is that now people have finally stopped talking about Jag’s controversial yet daring rebranding effort. And just like its prior branding, Jaguar has also ditched its old and previous design languages and cues in favour of straight lines and sharp edges, and the Type 00 has tons of those to begin with.
For starters, the Type 00 trades the I-Pace’s squircle-shaped front grille for a sleek, squared-off one featuring horizontal slats. Crowning above this rectangular grille is the controversial new Jaguar lettering, while the dual slim LED lights complete the whole new front face.
The radicalisation is arguably even more prominent at the rear, as the Type 00 gets the same rectangular grille design as the front, although we’d reckon this one will serve an entirely different purpose that we’re not sure of for now. Sandwiched between the slim horizontal slats are a pair of equally slim LED strips, while the sporty lower bumper accent gives the square-ish rear end a bit of a sporty touch. And before we forget, yes, the Type 00 has no rear windscreen.
The only saving grace for Jaguar purists may be the Type 00’s side profile, with the concept retaining the same two-door, long-hooded fastback bodystyle as some of the Jag’s most iconic models, notably the legendary Jaguar E-Type. Besides the fastback homage, the Type 00 does carry some design elements that hark back to its sister brand, Land Rover, most notably the chiseled front end, the gold-hued side fender trims that house side-view cameras, as well as the overall boxy aesthetic of the concept.
On board, the Type 00 comes strictly with a two-seater layout, and as far as concepts go, the interior is very minimalistically designed. What’s missing from the innards is a slew of display screens that have become staples in many EVs nowadays, although we’re certain that the production models the Type 00 spawns will come with at least one of those.
Given its status as a mere design concept, it comes as no surprise that Jaguar has yet to unveil any juicy bits regarding the Type 00’s powertrain setup. One thing’s for certain is that the Type 00 will underpin Jag’s proprietary JEA electric platform, which not only promises up to 770 KM of WLTP range but also some impressive fast charging performance.
With that being said, Jaguar is looking forward to spawning a fleet of next-gen EVs based on this Type 00 concept, with the first one, said to feature a four-door GT bodystyle, set to make its arrival in late 2025. Said EV GT will be followed by two more models, which we’d reckon would likely be SUVs or crossovers.
