- Jaguar Set to Unveil New EV GT Model This Year
Jaguar is set to expand its electrified lineup by introducing a new EV GT model that will underpin its new electric platform.
Among its European peers, it seems like Jaguar has been the quietest of the bunch. As it turns out, the British marque is working on a series of projects, including a new bespoke electric platform that will be used by an entirely new EV model lineup, with one of them set to be unveiled this year.

As one of the three upcoming EVs to underpin the marque’s new electric platform, the Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), this new electric Jag will take the form of a sleek grand tourer. Aside from being the frontrunner of Jaguar’s transition into a full-fledged EV marque, this new electric GT model will also mark the brand’s transition from being a premium brand fighting against the likes of BMW and Mercedes-Benz to a luxury one, set to rival the likes of Bentley and Porsche.
This new EV GT will feature designs inspired by past Jaguar models, including the legendary E-Type.
Speaking to AutoNews Europe, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) CEO Adrian Mardell said its first EV GT model will make people “salivate” when they see it for the first time. The CEO further added that the new EV GT won’t outright copy the design of previous Jaguar models but rather take inspiration from them, notably the legendary Jaguar E-Type.
Aside from boasting attractive design, Jag’s new EV GT will also help the brand focus on international markets laden with super-wealthy buyers like the US, in line with its plan to transition into a luxury marque. This also led to speculations that Jaguar might unveil this new EV GT model in the States, possibly taking place at renowned motoring events like the Pebble Beach Concours in August and the Los Angeles Auto Show later in November.
This new JEA platform will boast significant battery performance over the current crop of JLR EV models like the Jaguar I-Pace.
Back to the new JEA platform, Jaguar reveals that this dedicated EV platform would be capable of delivering up to 700 KM of driving range, although the automaker didn’t specify the maximum power output it can handle. More importantly, models that will underpin this new platform, including the upcoming EV GT model, will cost more than £100,000 (RM593,004).
Besides the new EV GT and the two upcoming models, the JEA platform will also be used by several special edition or one-off models that will help to drive up the prices even further. Although no solid plans were being laid out so far, JLR chief creative officer Gerry McGovern said that Jaguar may someday make a limited-run model called the “Panthera.”
