According to a recent article in The Star, road safety experts are calling for dashcams to be installed in all cars as part of an effort to transform road safety , pointing to notable increases in protection and a decline in false insurance claims.
Speaking on the subject, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, member of the Road Safety Council, states that installing dashcams in cars is an essential step in encouraging safer driving practices and improving road safety. He also emphasises that dashcams are a useful tool for tracking driving patterns and offering objective proof in traffic accidents. WhatsApp-Image-2025-01-09-at-17.14.09.jpeg

"The presence of a dashcam acts as a deterrent to reckless driving, speeding, and other forms of irresponsible behaviour on the road. "Knowing that their actions are being recorded encourages drivers to adhere to traffic rules and exercise greater caution.

"This can significantly reduce the risk of accidents and create a culture of accountability among road users," he told The Star. Lee stated that dashcams should be made affordable to all car owners in order to establish them as necessary accessories for Malaysian drivers. In order to promote wider use, the Road Safety Council member urges the government to consider providing tax breaks or subsidies for dashcam purchases.

"The government should also collaborate with dashcam manufacturers to develop affordable models tailored for local markets," he added.

Based on our survey, dashcams come in a wide range of prices, from budget-friendly to high-end models, with prices ranging from MYR60 to over MYR1000. Purchasing a high-quality dashcam is a smart move for any car owner, especially as traffic incidents involving angry drivers, reckless driving, and accidents become more frequent.

Given the large selection of devices available at various price points, consumers should choose a device that best suits their requirements and financial constraints without sacrificing any features that may be vital for recording significant road events.
