- Sporty Mazda Spirit Racing CX-60 Rally Concept Heads to TAS 2025
The sporty, rally-inspired Mazda Spirit Racing CX-60 Rally Concept was unveiled at Tokyo Auto Salon 2025.
This year’s Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS 2025) saw Mazda unveiling the first product for its Spirit Racing performance sub-brand, which is based on the beloved Mazda MX-5 (or Roadster if you live in Japan). However, the Hiroshima-based marque also showcased yet another model to get the Spirit Racing treatment, which is based on the CX-60 midsize SUV.

Christened as the Mazda Spirit Racing CX-60 Rally Concept, this sporty SUV gets several exterior and interior upgrades that are inspired by rally cars, as its name suggests. Some key design bits include the large rear spoiler, a rally-style proof scoop, custom front and rear skid plates, quad tailpipes, a slew of black accents and trims, as well as several Mazda Spirit Racing emblems scattered around the exterior.
What’s also special is the matte grey wrap this car dons, which comes with light grey graphics, some Mazda Spirit Racing decals, and contrasting orange stripes. Completing the whole rally get-up are the black-hued 20-inch alloy wheels this special CX-60 rides on, and while Mazda did not mention any upgrades on the suspensions, this rally SUV appears to sit closer to the ground compared to its stock contemporaries.
The Spirit Racing treatment continues as we get inside the CX-60, where it swaps the standard plush powered front seats for a pair of Recaro carbon buckets with rally-style six-point harnesses. Adding further rallying pedigree to this family SUV is the roll cage setup, plus several Alcantara trims and inserts to complement the standard black leather upholstery.
Predictably, the CX-60 Rally Concept retains its civilian twin’s 3.3-litre inline-six turbodiesel Skyactiv-D engine, which hooks up to a 48-volt mild hybrid (MHEV) system to churn out 254 PS and 500 NM. Power is then sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed conventional automatic transmission.
Unlike the Miata, there’s no confirmation on whether the Mazda Spirit Racing CX-60 Rally Concept will make it into production. With that being said, we’re certain that there are many CX-60 owners out there who'd love to see Mazda offering the Spirit Racing trims for this midsize SUV, just like what Mazda Malaysia (Bermaz Auto) did with the CX-5 MS Limited Edition back at KLIMS last year.
