Mazda CX-60 & CX-80 Coming to KLIMS 2024 – Launching Soon?

Bermaz Auto is slated to showcase both the Mazda CX-60 and CX-80 SUVs at the upcoming KLIMS 2024.
It’s T Minus one day before the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024 opens its doors, and it seems some automakers are still busy making announcements and teasers regarding their product lineup at the upcoming show. This time around, it's Bermaz Auto's (BAuto) turn, where it will be showcasing two new models from Mazda, namely the Mazda CX-60 and CX-80.
Both the CX-60 and CX-80 are part of Mazda’s new Large Product Group lineup, with the former featuring a five-seater layout, while the latter is essentially a stretched-out, three-row version of the former. Regardless of seating layouts, both models, together with the entire Large Product Group lineup, are part of the Hiroshima-based marque’s plan to go upmarket, knocking the doors of some prominent European automakers.

The CX-60’s arrival into our local market has been rumoured for quite some time, with BAuto initially planning the midsize SUV to be part of its 2024 product launch roster. Already debuted in ASEAN markets such as the Philippines, Singapore, and even Indonesia, the CX-60 is offered with a slew of powertrain options, including a new 2.5-litre 4-cyl petrol plug-in hybrid (PHEV) unit rated at up to 323 HP and 500 NM.
Not to forget, the CX-60 is also offered with several petrol and diesel options in the form of a turbocharged 3.3-litre straight-six, with some of them even getting semi-electrified assistance in the form of a 48-volt mild hybrid (MHEV) system. Not to forget, a full ICE 2.5-litre option is also available, which uses the same Skyactiv-G mill as both the CX-5 and CX-8.

Dimension-wise, the CX-60 spans 4,745 MM long, 1,890 MM wide, 1,685 MM tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,870 MM. Given its upmarket status, the CX-60 has its crosshairs locked on both the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC.

Moving on to the CX-80, this three-row SUV is just fresh from making its global debut back in April this year. Yet to make its entry in any ASEAN markets for now, the CX-80’s arrival at KLIMS 2024 could mark its first public appearance in the region.

Measuring 4,995 MM long, 1,890 MM wide, 1,710 MM tall, and a wheelbase of 3,120 MM, the CX-80 is not only larger than the CX-60 but also several other European three-row SUVs in our market, such as the Mercedes-Benz GLE and Volvo XC90, to name a few. Besides its larger and lankier body, the CX-80 shares many similarities with the CX-60 on the design front, including the LED headlights with L-shaped signatures, both the front and rear bumper design, and many more.

The CX-80’s interior has also been largely carried over from its two-row twin, featuring the same front dash setup that houses the 12.3-inch central infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster as the CX-60. For the international market, the CX-80 is offered with both six- and seven-seat options, with the former featuring two captain-style chairs for the second row.
Unlike the CX-60, the CX-80 gets a more simplified powertrain lineup, as it is only offered with two options, namely the 2.5-litre Skyactiv-G PHEV and the 3.3-litre straight-six turbodiesel MHEV—both of which are borrowed from the CX-60.

As of now, there’s no mention of any launch plans for both the CX-60 and CX-80, as their arrival at the upcoming KLIMS 2024 will be just a mere preview, at least according to BAuto’s official statement. What’s slated for launch at the motor show, though, is the limited-edition Mazda CX-5 MS, which promises to feature “exclusive aesthetic enhancements to both its exterior and interior.” Not to forget, the locally-assembled (CKD) Kia Sportage will also make its official market entry at the show.
