- Zeekr Enters the Hybrid Era, Plans 2 Super-Hybrid SUVs
Zeekr's CEO Andy An recently unveiled ambitious product plans for 2025. Notably, it marks a significant milestone for the electric vehicle (EV) maker as it plans to introduce its first hybrid models.
Speaking during a Geely Automobile Holdings call on sales targets, Andy announced that Zeekr will launch three all-new models in 2025, with one set cor debut anytime between the first (Q1) and final (Q4) quarter of this year..
Zeekr’s parent company Geely aims to sell 2.71 million vehicles in 2025, with 320,000 units of which touted to come from the Zeekr brand. The remainder is set to stem from the rest of the other brands under Geely’s umbrella.
Among the new offerings, Zeekr plans to introduce a shooting brake model based on the Zeekr 007 electric sedan in Q2, followed by a large flagship SUV in Q3 and a mid-to-large size luxury SUV in Q4.
Notably, both SUVs will be available in both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) forms.
Additionally, Andy also introduced Zeekr’s proprietary Super Hybrid system. This groundbreaking powertrain combines the strengths of BEVs, PHEVs, and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs). It is understood this system will underpin Geely’s reworked Thor PHEV tech.
This system is designed for low energy consumption during highway driving, extended range capabilities, and a seamless all-electric driving experience. more details on this tech will only be unveiled during the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show in Apr.
Currently, Zeekr’s lineup consists of all BEV models such as the X and 009. Both were also recently made available in Malaysia. News of upcoming new hybrid models arguably comes timely as there is a growing preference for which amongst consumers.
While most brands and EV startups initially focus on BEVs, over time other forms of combustion like hybrids are needed to address range anxiety concers. In fact, with the exception of Nio, all major automakers in China have or are planning to introduce hybrids.
Xpeng recently launched its Kunpeng hybrid system, boasting a combined range of up to 1,400 KM, with 430 KM of pure-electric range.
Zeekr’s market presence has also expanded rapidly. In 2024, the company added over 150 stores, bringing its global network to 538 outlets by the end of the year, altogether delivering 222,123 vehicles too.
Zeekr’s focus on hybrid technology, coupled with its aggressive network expansion and innovative product lineup, positions it well to meet evolving consumer demands and achieve its ambitious goals for 2025.
