- “All Our Tyres Are EV-Compatible” – Continental Tyre Malaysia
Continental Tyre Malaysia issued a statement today reassuring that its range of products available locally are "EV-compatible".
According to Continental Tyre Malaysia, it reckons that electric vehicles (EVs) are poised to account for at least 20% of the total industry volume (TIV) for both passenger and commercial vehicles in Malaysia by 2030.
Citing data logged into Malaysia’s Official Open Data Portal, the firm notes that the number of EVs present on Malaysian roads rose sharply from just over 3,000 units in 2022 to a whopping 13,300 units in 2023, reaching a total of nearly 22,000 units in 2024 as well.
Though not labelled as EV-specific tyres, Continental Tyre Malaysia reassures that all its tyres are fully compatible with EVs, and that they are all tailored to meet their unique performance requirements.
Considering which, Continental Tyre Malaysia highlights that ALL its tyres sold across various segments are designed to be fully compatible with EVs. Though not marketed or labelled as EV-specific tyres, these are tailored to meet their unique performance requirements, says the firm.

Critically, the firm stressed the importance for EV owners towards understanding tyre compatibility. Specifically, consumers ought to look key parameters like load and speed indexes of the tyre to handle increased vehicle weight, traction and grip, as well as tread designs that maximises energy efficiency, says the firm.
Adding to which, Continental highlights the advanced ‘noise breaker’ tech incorporated in its tyres, which emits low noise levels for enhanced driving comforts. As many EV owners know, this is a big plus considering that EVs in general produce little to no noise, thus making other sounds and road noise more noticeable on board too.

Besides consumer products, Continental Tyre Malaysia also highlights how a slew of EV models from various manufacturers have adopted their tyres as original equipment (OE) fitment - the BMW iX2 pictured is one such example.
Continental Tyre Malaysia also notes that some of the products mentioned are presently supplied as original equipment (OE) fitment for slew of EV models from leading manufacturers such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, smart Automobile, Renault, Kia, Volvo, and BYD.
