Porsche just claimed a fourth Guinness World Record with its Taycan EV. This latest attempt sees a Taycan GTS set a new world record for the longest continuous drift on ice in an EV.

German sportscar marque Porsche set a new Guinness World Record for the longest continuous vehicle drift on ice by an electric vehicle (EV). The feat was accomplished recently using a Taycan GTS.

The record attempt lasted 46 minutes, and it saw Porsche Experience instructor Jens Richter complete 132 laps of an ice track at the Porsche Arctic Center in Levin, Finland. Richter drifted continuously over a total distance of 17.503 KM, beating the previous record of 14.809 KM.

Though the record-setting attempt looked easy, it was far from it. Case in point was the abandoned first attempt, which lasted just 11 KM because the ice track started deteriorating too quickly. Perhaps the special Michelin winter tyres with 1 MM spikes equipped also played a role in this.

The second attempt was done after nightfall as temperatures dropped and kept the track intact firmer for longer.

An initial attempt was abandoned after just 11 KM due to the track surface deteriorating faster than anticipated.

The vehicle was also primed with a professional GPS measuring device to measure the route precisely, documents the distance travelled, record the driver's actions such as steering wheel movements, accelerator and braking, and the G-forces acting on the vehicle.

As a refresher, the Taycan in GTS guise used in this attempt packs a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup. Altogether, there’s 690 HP available, allowing for 0-100 KM/H sprints despatched in just 2.7 secs whilst also boasting a claimed max range of 626 KM.

"With our new Guinness World Records title on ice, the Taycan has once again proven its sideways driving qualities," says Jens Richter.

"And this time with all-wheel drive. The fact that the Taycan GTS can be controlled so well even under extreme conditions speaks volumes for its excellent chassis and balanced performance,” added Richter further.

By the way, This is the Taycan model’s fourth Guinness World Records title. The model’s first earned one in 2020 when a Taycan drifted 210 laps in 55 minutes. In 2021, racing driver Leh Keen achieved the fastest vehicle speed in an enclosed building, hitting 165.1 KM/H.

A third record what charted in 2023 when a Taycan Cross Turismo achieved the greatest altitude change by an EV.
