Toyota’s all-new electric crossover will be based on the bZ Compact SUV concept, set to debut later on March 11.

Toyota is finally ramping up its electromobility adoption, as the Japanese automotive giant is poised to unveil its new all-electric crossover model. Set to debut later on March 11 this year, this new EV crossover will be based on the previously shown bZ Compact SUV concept.

Ahead of its much-anticipated debut, Toyota has published a single teaser image of this unnamed EV crossover, plus a short video clip just to get us excited. And naturally, just like any other teaser image, this one is also draped in shadow, with the only clear thing you can see being the sporty coupe crossover silhouette this unnamed EV boasts.

Putting the teaser image side by side with the bZ Compact SUV concept, you’ll notice many similarities between the final production model and its concept twin, with key design highlights including the sporty coupe roofline with a roof-mounted rear spoiler, the sharp, C-shaped LED headlights, the slim LED taillights, sculpted side profiles with flushed door handles, and many more.

Should the new EV crossover boast similar dimensions as the bZ Compact SUV, we can expect this model to be positioned below the Toyota bZ4X, as the concept itself measures 152 MM shorter and 90 MM lower than the aforementioned EV SUV.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV SUV

Predictably, Toyota has yet to unveil any details or figures regarding this new EV’s powertrain and battery setups. For reference, the newly debuted Toyota Urban Cruiser EV, which is smaller in size than this new crossover, comes with either a smaller 49-kWh battery pack or a larger 61-kWh unit.

Similarly, three powertrain options were offered to the Urban Cruiser, namely the single-motor FWD unit rated at 142 HP for the smaller battery and 172 HP with the bigger one. Meanwhile, the top-spec dual-motor AWD gets the highest state-of-tune at up to 182 HP.

As we mentioned earlier, the production version of the bZ Compact SUV concept will be making its full debut later in Europe on March 11. Similar to the Urban Cruiser SUV, it seems like this mysterious EV crossover will also be a European market special at first, before (hopefully) making its way into other overseas markets.
