While Malaysians anticipate the arrival of the Deepal S05 alongside the S07 under Bermaz Auto (BAuto) later this year, Thai consumers have already had the first taste of this electric SUV at the 2025 Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS).

The S05, an electric SUV under the Changan brand, features a sleek, aerodynamic design with a closed grille, split LED headlights, and striking Star Wing LED taillights.

Measuring 4,620 MM in length, 1,900 MM in width, and 1,600 MM in height, with a generous 2,880 MM wheelbase, the S05 offers best-in-class interior space against rivals like the Proton e.MAS 7 and BYD Atto 3. It also stands out with a 169 MM ground clearance and stylish 18-inch alloy wheels, adding to its road presence.

In Thailand, three variants of the Deepal S05 EV have been introduced—Lite, Plus, and Max—while two range-extended REEV versions, the Plus REEV and Max REEV, were previewed.

The EV models are powered by a 175 kW (241 HP) motor delivering 320 NM of torque, paired with a 56.1 kWh LFP battery. With an NEDC-rated range of 470 KM and a top speed of 180 KM/H, the S05 accelerates from 0 to 100 KM/H in 7.3 secs. DC fast charging is rated at 151.5 kW, while AC charging speed is 6.6 kW.

For the upcoming REEV variants, the S05 combines a 1.5L four-cylinder, 16-valve VVT engine producing 70 kW (94 HP) and 122 NM of torque with an electric motor that delivers 160 kW (215 HP) and 320 NM of torque. A 27.28 kWh LFP battery provides a 170 KM pure electric range, with a total driving range extending up to 1,234 KM.

Performance-wise, the REEV achieves 0 to 100 KM/H in 7.9 secs, with a top speed of 175 KM/H. Charging remains rapid with a 54.5 kW DC rate and a 6.6 kW AC option. Both the BEV and REEV versions also feature Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology for added convenience.

Inside, the Deepal S05 delivers a premium tech-focused cabin, headlined by a 15.4-inch 2.5K infotainment display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, along with an intelligent voice assistant available in both Thai and English.

Other notable features include an Augmented Reality Head-Up Display (AR-HUD), a 14-speaker premium sound system, dual-zone climate control, a 50W wireless charger, and power-adjustable front seats with memory and massage functions. Ambient lighting with 64 color options and a panoramic sunroof further enhance the upscale experience.

On the safety front, the S05 is equipped with an extensive ADAS suite, featuring Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assistance, Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Detection, a Driver Monitoring System, and a 360-degree camera with a transparent chassis view, among other advanced safety features.

Pricing for the Deepal S05 BEV starts at THB799,000 (RM105,000) for the Lite variant, THB849,000 (RM111,000) for the Plus variant, and THB899,000 (RM118,000) for the Max variant. The upcoming S05 REEV is expected to be competitively priced, with an estimated starting price below THB999,000 (RM131,000).

As the Deepal S05 prepares for its Malaysian debut, all eyes will be on BAuto’s pricing strategy. Will it be aggressive enough to take on established competitors like the Proton e.MAS 7 and BYD Atto 3? That remains to be seen as the EV market in Malaysia continues to heat up.
