- BYD Set To Roll Out 1000V Platform With 5C Charging
BYD is set to revolutionize EV charging with its new 1000V high-voltage platform, offering ultra-fast charging speeds surpassing 5C.
According to CarNewsChina, the official launch is expected in mid-March, followed by large-scale deployment of 1000V compatible charging stations.
Starting 2025, BYD will gradually update its premium-end offerings to incorporate this tech. New models like the Han L and Tang L, teased earlier this year, are amongst the first to feature this platform when they debut later this month. These models were reported to gain 300 KM of range with just 5 minutes of charging.
Compared to 800V platforms, every additional 100V increases charging power by 25 kW. High-voltage systems also generate less heat, reducing battery strain, improving longevity, and allow electric motors to reach higher speeds without any size increase.
BYD is also said to be developing a pure electric architecture codenamed BOX, aimed at improving energy efficiency and system integration.
As the 1000V architecture is readied for roll-out, BYD has also begun setting up appropriate DC Fast Charging stations in China.
But the company isn’t stopping at 1000V. Reports from Nov suggest BYD is working on the world’s fastest battery for electric construction machinery.
This next-gen 1500V machinery platform will deliver up to 600 kW of charging power, a maximum current of 400A and over 7,000 charge cycles. It will also be a massive 2,500 kWh capacity unit, all powered by lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry.
BYD’s in the first two months of the year alone had shifted 614,679 vehicles globally - a staggering 90% increase from the same period last year thanks to its aggressive push in EV technology.
